Based on a calculated assessment, my final analysis of the number of councils that will be left with a policy of quantity controls at the end of the Government exercise, which asked all restricted councils to re- asses their policy is 27%.

There are still 22 councils who have yet to decide on policy but my final analysis suggests there will be 94 councils retaining quantity controls with perhaps a margin of error of one or possibly two reductions.

This represents a total reduction of 57 councils who have chosen to remove quantity controls since the publication of the DfT letter in June 2004. The reduction in terms of percentage is a massive 37.7% and it could yet be lower.

In 2004 not many people would have predicted this huge reduction in the number of councils who practised a policy of quantity control. If you had suggested to the TGWU or the NTA back in 2004 that in the space of 18 months 57 councils would renounce their policy of quantity control, they would have laughed at you.

It is not so long ago that the TGWU messiah Mr Peter Kavanagh was basking in his so called defeat of the OFT. I wonder what tune Mr Kavanagh will be dancing to now that he knows his prophetic words of "councils know best" have well and truly come back to haunt him?

The world moves in mysterious ways and the likes of Mr Kavanagh should realise that there will always be people far smarter then him who will fight against the injustices of restrictive practices and the vested interests of exclusion.

There are multitudes of events in the pipeline, just like the ones that have unfurled in the last 18 months but as usual the Mr Kavanagh's of this world will find out to their chagrin long after the stable door has been well and truly closed. Such is the nature of complacency.

Regards

JD

and no doubt the faceless one has had a big hand in this and is orchestrating further events to mess up the trade.

Mess up the trade?

You have a problem with removing quantity controls?

From 151 to 94 in 18 months, yeah I can live with that.

Gets it down to a level which will make it oh so easy for the gov and OFT to finish the job when they review next year.

nope the faceless ones believe in the OFT mantra of more cars means more choice i.e. more competition, thing is the fares are regulated by the councils.

What does he suggest? negotiate prices

also the faceless ones wished the OFT hadn't got involved, thing is they probably are the OFT

As for Quality controls, they want anyone to be able to drive any type of vehicle so any one can join in.

Obviously it wont matter to the faceless one as he would be hiding somewhere not showing his face.

That's a lot more than I thought.

As for Mr Kavanagh, I thought he'd moved on to pastures new, or has he?

really? faceless? sorry TDO as much as you loathe what I say, its the truth, whilst you guys are jacking off on deregulation, spare a thought for the people it has affected, I forget you dont care about them, yet you blabber on about how you are the trade, how you care for the trade etc etc.

I have to keep my arguments simplistic for you, misleading I think not, misrepresentative, dont think so,

If you know anything about deregulation and market forces, then explain to me about the buses? the state of the railway or better still the energy companies????

as me for being faceless, well we all know where i am, what I drive, but do we know where you are? no because you are FACELESS, prefering to cower behind the scenes.........

Tell me your reasons why you believe you should be a protected species and immune from the competition of someone obtaining the same license as you?

He's registered as Road Transport so he may well have moved on.

I think in time the only thing he will be remembered for is his famous quote "councils know best".

Another famous quote of his was,

"The T&G led the campaign nationally; we will now deliver locally,"

i like the way you have managed to change the competition word, but tell me how is he going to compete with me?

if you know anything about taxi driving, then you will know that a lot of your work is done on the ranks, so basically if he is before me then he gets the job, if i am before him then I get the job, again if you are a taxi driver then you would know that most taxis have meters, so it would be the same fare, unless of course he wanted to do cut his fares, then thats upto him, as pretty soon he would be out of business.

alternatively he might be flagged down, again his fare will not be any different then mine, if he wants to give a free fare then its up to him, all that will happen is customers will start expecting these silly prices and most of the other good drivers wont be doing them.

no the only competition that will exisit will be the competition for scarce resources i.e. rank space, road space but your faceless species doesnt seem to understand that.
