Of course, odd that this is the obverse of the normal scenario.

And odd in other regards as well, but I'm saying :-#

Litherland woman who sexually assaulted taxi driver sobs as she's spared jail

Emma Richards sexually assaulted the man as he drove her home from the Cavern Quarter

A woman who drunkenly assaulted a taxi driver as he navigated the road sobbed and fell to the floor in court - despite being spared a prison term. Emma Richards, 41, burst into tears when the judge told her he could not reduce her sentence beyond the minimum term.

The mum-of-four appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today, Tuesday October 14, having pleaded guilty to sexual assault. Richards, of Green Lane in Litherland, initially denied assaulting the taxi driver, but changed her plea following a previous court hearing.

Judge Simon Medland KC, said: "The evidence against her was frankly overwhelming because of the car CCTV footage."

The incident happened at around 8.50pm on June 12 this year. Prosecutor Ben Stanley said the taxi driver received a call to take Richards from Cumberland Street in the Cavern Quarter to Green Lane, and Richards got into the front passenger seat.

Shortly into the drive, Richards, who had been drinking heavily, made suggestive comments to the victim and said he "smelled nice". She then grabbed his left arm and leaned towards him, attempting to kiss him.

He was worried how she would react

The victim rebuffed her and told her to stay in her seat, but Richards again attempted to grab his arm and lean in towards him.

Mr Stanley said: "A short time later, the defendant touched his groin, rubbing it with her right hand. He didn't tell her to stop because he was worried how she would react as they were trapped in the vehicle together, and this continued for a few minutes."

Richards pulled up her top and exposed her chest while rubbing the victim's groin and genitals. The incident lasted approximately four minutes, after which Richards left the vehicle.

The victim drove off and parked his taxi around the corner, where he called the police.

In a statement, he said: "Before this happened I felt like I was a normal person living a normal life. I was comfortable meeting different people each day as that was my job. I regularly had to sit alone with passengers and I never thought of this as something I should be worried about.

"I don't feel like the same person since the incident"

"Since this happened, that feeling of safety has gone. Being in a confined space with a woman makes me feel extremely uncomfortable. Sometimes I feel nervous even when there's no reason to be. This is difficult as I can't avoid these situations. Picking up passengers is how I earn my living.

"I tried to continue working after the incident as I wanted to carry on with my normal life. I found I couldn't do it any more, the anxiety I felt became too much for me and eventually I had to stop working (as a taxi driver)."

He said: "I don't feel like the same person since the incident. I suffered from anxiety and nightmares. I still think about the incident when I'm trying to sleep. I never thought something like this would affect me so deeply.

He added the assault had left him feeling "embarrassed" as he had been unable to have intimate relationships with women since it happened.

He said: "As a man there's an expectation I should be able to deal with things and move on. I tell myself I'm safe but my mind and body do not always react that way. While the incident lasted a short period of time the effects have lasted for a very long time after."

Matt O'Neill, defending Richards, said: "Her life has been very traumatic at times; (she has been) a victim of domestic abuse. The defendant told me she has attempted suicide previously. She's a woman who has lost her good character due to issues with alcohol."

He asked the judge to make a community order, adding: "These offences were clearly committed while she was highly intoxicated."

Judge Menary said: "This has had a serious impact on the victim. It proves the point that sexual assault, whether committed by a woman or a man, on a woman or a man, is a very serious thing. Maybe the incident was only a few minutes, but often has a profound effect on the victim."

Richards began to cry as she was asked to stand to hear her sentence

He added: "She committed the offence because she was very drunk. I do not dispute for one minute that which is identified by the pre-sentence report, namely a history of anxiety and depression which are mental illnesses. All of that will have been exacerbated by any problems within relationships, violent or otherwise.

"I also have to balance against that the effect on the victim and the nature of the offence."

Richards cried as she was asked to stand to hear her sentence, which was an 18 month community order and a six month alcohol abstinence requirement.

She fell to the floor and bawled loudly as she was told she would be a registered sex offender for a period of five years. She had to be escorted from the courtroom.

For what it's worth, there's a video of the perp leaving court doing the rounds, but she's got a blanket over here head.

But, predictability enough, this one's all over the press, both in many local and national titles :-o

That not only secured the conviction but more than likely saved the driver from a false accusation.

The best money that driver has ever spent.

Saw this on PHTM recently - not sure why it was featured there recently, because this particular version of the story is dated from February this year.

And it's not job, precisely. But she was thrown out of a taxi, and obviously the ensuing scenario could well have involved another taxi driver :-o

And a useful counter-narrative to the Wick article

Woman jailed for falsely accusing ‘exemplary’ Muslim of raping her after drunken night out

A woman has been jailed for two years for falsely accusing a Muslim man of rape after he found her drunk, barefoot and distressed in the middle of the street, and drove her home to safety.

Salim Ullah, 33, an innocent father-to-be, came across Rachel Jones, 38, following her drunken night out on April 18, 2022, and offered to take her home after finding her alone in the street.

Jones, a mother of five, had reportedly been ejected from a taxi after arguing with the driver.

Concerned by her erratic and distressed behaviour, Ullah stopped his car and offered to drive her home.

At the end of the journey, Ullah refused Jones’ attempt to hug him. She later returned home and falsely claimed she had been lured into a car and gang-raped by Ullah and two other Pakistani men.

Jones was jailed for two years on February 7 after admitting to perverting the course of justice at Chester Crown Court. The false allegations had destroyed Ullah’s reputation.

Ullah’s family expressed their anger at how such a false allegation could be thrown around so loosely. “How could she be so cruel?” they lamented after the court proceedings last week.

The false allegations

After dropping Jones off, Ullah was traced through his number plate and arrested at his home in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, and was held in a police cell for 30 hours.

During his initial arrest, Ullah was subjected to intrusive examinations and became the subject of rumours and judgement in his community before detectives concluded that no rape had taken place.

Ullah had cleverly recorded the encounter on his mobile phone, which was later used by the police as evidence to exonerate him and clear him of the charges.

A relative of Ullah, who requested anonymity, said: “We’re just relieved that Salim has cleared his name. He did absolutely nothing wrong. He just tried to help someone in apparent distress and what this case shows is the danger of women like Rachel Jones concocting horrible false stories that could easily ruin lives.”

Impact on Ullah

Ullah was even forced to move away from his area of Stoke-on-Trent due to the community’s reaction during the court case. At the sentencing of Jones, Ullah detailed the devastating impact that the allegations against him had.

He said: “My wife was six months pregnant at the time and this allegation brought a lot of stress to us. I should have been fully there for my wife – however, we were worried about what would happen at the end of the case.

“I was worried that I might not be there for the birth of the baby and I just feel lucky I recorded the incident.”

Ullah further described how the ordeal left him feeling “violated” and that he believed he was targeted “due to my ethnicity”.

Judge praises Ullah’s ‘exemplary fashion’

The judge presiding over the case, Judge Steve Everett, told the court: “Mr Ullah behaved in an exemplary fashion and did what many people would not have done and went to your aid.

“Sadly, the reason why many other people would not have gone to the aid of a lone woman distressed in the middle of the road without shoes is due to what happened to him as a result of his act of charity.

“There will be many people who will say: ‘I am not doing that just in case a serious allegation is made.’

“Your behaviour has consequences for people genuinely in need, and you were doing a disservice to those victims who have been genuinely attacked, assaulted and sexually assaulted and are left on the side of the road and are maybe left there because people who drive by say, ‘I am not taking the risk.’”

Admitting her guilt, Jones said in court: “I said things I should never have said. I am a silly woman. I am disgusting. I am sorry. I am sorry.”

What an absolute slag?

The bloke was a good Samaritan and nearly paid for that with his liberty.

Thank goodness he had the sense to record the interaction with this thing.

That said, he must have had concerns to do that, and maybe it would have been better if he had left her in the gutter where she deserved to be.
