Wannabe taxi driver

hi ive been browsing the forums for a while and now i need some advice

i want to be a taxi driver the reasons why are because its flexible? and ive not had much luck with other jobs

my age is 22 ive been passed for nearly 1 year now im from birmingham

where can i get a taxi lisence after just being passed for 1 year?

where is the best place to work area wise
im willing to travel to an diffrent area if i need to ?

i hope u guys will help me i will be asking lots of questions coz i need advice on what to do and what not

You can get a license anywhere after 1 years full driving.

The best place to work is the place where you can earn most by working less. And if you happen to find a place FFS come back and tell us all.

Otherwise ask around locally. :wink:

come on guys im a newbie you all should know where work and where not to
and what to do and what not im a newbie

its P/H im looking for first then black cab possibly

in birmingham its 2 years before i can do p/h

would it be a problem if i was to work in a diffrent town as a ph but still live in bham or ?

No, that shouldn't be a problem - you just have to satisfy the conditions set by the council in the area you want to work in, and where you live is irrelevant.

But why can't you work in Birmingham, exactly?

As regards the best areas, no one can really tell you what it's like outside their own area, and they don't really know how their area compares to others, so in effect your question is very difficult to answer.

Carmarthen:- 1st October 2001

A 19 year old driver applied for a Hackney Carriage Drivers Licence earlier this year but because of her age the matter was referred to the Council's Licensing Committee. The Council had a condition of licence (a policy) that it would only licence drivers aged at least 21 and who have been driving for at least 2 years. The Council further conteneded that the age of the Appellant meant that they could not be satisfied that she was a "fit & proper person" to hold a licence. The Appellant argued that neither the Act of 1847 or 1976 required an applicant to be aged at least 21 and in fact the wording of the Acts made it clear that so long as an applicant had held a full drivers licence for at least 12 months then a licence should be issued, provided of course that she was otherwise fit and proper. The Appellant in this case was medically fit, conviction free and had held a full licence for 2 years and 7 months. The Appellant further argued that the condition of licence relied on by the council was unenforceable as there is no provision in the Act of 1847 or 1976 to attach conditions of Licence upon a Hackney Carriage Driver. Hackney Carriage Drivers must be regulated by way of "Bye-Laws" in accordance with s68 Town Police Clauses Act 1847. HELD: The Appeal was allowed and the Council was ordered to pay the Appellant's costs. Solicitor for the Appellant Keith Jeffreys, Kearns & Co Swansea - Solicitor for the Council Robert Edgecombe, Carmarthenshire County Council Legal Serices.

There are 343 councils in England and Wales, and 343 different ways of working this trade. The best one for me, or anyone else, isn't always the best for you. :wink:

Barry your licence is the least of your problems, when starting out young.

Have you by any chance had an insurance quote, my guess is your young, with little experience you'd be lucky if your quotes (if they accept your business) less than £5000. (I would guess)

it was because i was told that you have to be pass for at least 2 years

sussex i will find out about that they keep telling me 2 years

peebee i have not got a quote as of yet but i will do i was thinking as im on new deal maybe i could get some funding from them

ppl tell me the trades gone down yet they dont leave and more and more ppl are joining

is it worth it? seriously if you could make a 100 a day that would be good give or take a little

The one year is based on the provincial legislation, so presumably the London Private Hire Act was drawn up to make it three years minimum?
