Whats the bet? If Coutts make a legal move the council will bottle it.

I think if Edinburgh is the only place in Scotland where PH can't use the bus-lanes, then my money is on that ending.

If the cab trade are worried about normal cars following the PH in, then the best way is to allow proper PH signage.

Might be a good way forward in London too boot.

Jim Muldoon, chairman of the Scottish Taxi Federation, said: "If private hire vehicles use the bus lanes, other motorists will follow them and clog up the road. It would defeat the purpose of a bus lane. Breaking the law is indefensible in court."

So what's the position in Glasgow, and if PH are allowed in do other vehicles follow suit?

a reply to your post Ross -

Quote:
well TornCasualty iam happy driving PH nothing has changed there and i don’t want to turn myself in to a TAXI the point is that ross and others think that becoz the have passed there brief that this gets them access to the greenways

I have never said any such thing. I myself was embarrassed when I heard drivers on the radio spouting such nonsense.

Ok you have never said that will give you that one.

It wasn't so long ago that we where not allowed in the then bus lanes. The deciding factor in allowing us in was that we where all wheelchair accessable.

what about the poor old Mrs. Jones who’s is disabled and does not like to use a TAXI as she finds is hard toget in and out off but finds a saloon PH better for her. Should we forget about her and correct me if iam wrong but taxis have always been allowed in the greenways since they started

Now, what is it so hard to understand that ph are not taxis.

It’s not so hard as you will see I have never said I was a taxi.

A meter only becomes a taxi meter when fitted in a taxi.
As for the fare table, thats something I have in the pipeline to be changed to read PRIVATE HIRE CAR TARIFF.

Read the rules again Ross they are a Taxi metter when fitted to a PH or TAXI its there in black and white mate

Quote:
TAXI METERED FARES AS PER COUNCIAL GUIDE LINES

I THINK YOU'LL FIND THAT THE COUNCIL NO LONGER SETS YOUR FARES

You sure about that please tell me who does then as they are council approved.

Quote:
The greenways is not about the PH driver it’s about a fare deal for the passengers who use our service. [/color]

Read Torncasualty's post again.

I wonder if you heard that ph driver on the radio claim that because he had a Taxicard credit book, that made him a taxi.lol

Yes I heard him on the radio as well and I disagree with him he was trying to make a point but then again so were a number of others (not very well I may add)

So if I was to follow that theory then I am a fire engine, an ambulance, a bus. lawyer, doctor, nurse..........................

So you have a blue and green light on top of your taxi you play doctors and nurses then I Think you need to see a doctor if you have dual personalities LOL

You want to know why I hate the ph ?

It's because you keep trying to do my job as well as their own.

See the thing is Ross I don’t hate any taxi driver why don’t you do anger management course to help you get over this problem you have and I don’t do your job I do mine and iam being restricted from doing it with no greenways access.
All my work is pre booked and as I have said countless times before I do NOT pick up off the street I get asked a lot and always say no.
if I have a RTA or get caught my whole life is FECKED no job massive insurance claim if any one is hurt then kicked of my circuit and unable to pay my bills (think you get the picture) its not worth it to me I know you will be surprised to find out that majority of PH drivers do the job with in the rules and before you say it Yes I bet there are a few who don’t and I will have nothing to do with them.
So come on give the PH a break before you spout you lies about all PH picking up off the streets.
Also I bet not every taxi driver follows the rules.

a reply to torncasualty

I agree that passing your brief doesn't give you right to drive the Greenways, but being a fully wheelchair accessible taxi, with a driver who has passed the topographical knowledge test and associated Telford modules does.

Good we agree that passing your topo does not give you the right to get in to the greenways. What about poor old Mrs. Jones who likes a saloon car as she finds a taxi to hard to get in and out off???? Should we just forget all about her? Look why do you find it so hard to understand that I like a lot of PH driver just want to get from A to B ASAP

As for a fair deal for the passengers, why not just stop the meter from running on time when stuck in traffic, there's nothing to say you cant do that, or just knock the £3.00 Mr. Coutts claims is costing the passengers extra. Now THAT would be being fair to the passengers.

Come on torn do you think that every taxi driver turns the metter running time off when stuck in traffic??? Not a chance in hell. I Had friends who got a TAXI from the gyle to east craigs a couple of wks ago in rush hour the driver never turned off the running time on the metter and the fare was something like £15 (will ask next time I see them) NOW that’s not giving the passenger a FAIR DEAL is it.

Your supermarket comparison doesn’t hold up sorry. Tesco claim they compare 10000 items with Asda etc every day, but they sell much more than 10000 lines in each store and don’t always compare the ones you buy every week, and Asda have a price match system where if you bring in a printed offer from the others they will match it, but just for you, they don’t go reducing the price in store, nothing to say you cant price match a taxi, by turning off the timer on your meter when the fare gets in, or would the real reason be PHC in the guise of Mr. Coutts aren’t that interested in the public interest.

Well the point I was making was there is competition out there and nothing to do with price matching. People will shop around for the best deal and if you have your hands tied behind your back you are at a disadvantage. When any PH company tries to get business say in the form of business contracts they are at distinct disadvantage when they bid for the contract and a TAXI firm does with no greenways access and that’s not fair in my view

Lets face it Mr. Coutts is using the public interest issue as a self serving lever to get Greenways access. I personally don’t have an issue with Greenways access for PHC BUT if, as I guess its being used as the thin end of a very fat wedge for full recognition as a taxi, then I oppose it. A taxi is a taxi and a PHC is a PHC.

Trust me that if the boot was on the other foot you would do the same. No one as far as I know has said that we want to be called as taxi as well as getting access to the greenways if iam wrong please point me in the right direction.

GPS - The taxi's I spoken to who have GPS, generally say they are worthless for longer distances and use their knowledge to get them there the shortest practicable route (or whatever it says in the conditions) and just use the GPS for fine tuning the streets at the end i.e. Craigmount Hill or Brae etc. Many of course have brought them with them from their days as PHC drivers too Many have also said that GPS systems dont always provide the best routes as they will often use just main roads etc, it depends on the set up. I've thought of one, but havent bothered yet, I'll wait till my brain is as fried as Skull and Co's before I do that

Well if they are worthless why have them?????? True GPS don’t always give the best route and as you say its how you set it up.
I use mine for out of town work and finding door numbers in the dark (that’s if the number is in the thing lol) as we all know that can a nightmare at times LOL
If you look at some of the new radio systems for example Aurigas evocab system (you can download a demo form the web site http://www.auriga.co.uk/_en/ ) they are now coming with GPS screens on them so GPS is now a new tool that both sides of the trade will start to use more often.

What saloon car can you get a wheelchair into. Read the post again and you will see that I did not mention disabled."WHEELCHAIR ACCESSABLE"

The theory being, if I had a contract slip with lothian buses on it, then that would make me a bus ?

Answer this question chipper

what do you shout when you go into a pub, club hotel or down an intercom when picking up a prebooked fare ?
Is it..

A. Private hire car for Smith
or
B. Taxi for Smith

Level playing field number 11

When any taxi company tries to get business say in the form of business contracts, they are at a distinct disadvantage when they bid for the contract, because they are cut to the bone with ph discounts and backhanders. Taxi overhaeds are much greater than that of the ph. Thats not fair in my veiw.
You see it evens itself out.
