Seriously, its a bit daft not speaking the language when your a Taxi driver. How on earth does he communicate with his passengers?

This isn't racist, it's just common sense.

Its probably a blessing in disguise if he cant speak to his passengers, with relation to some of the most recent posts is that really such a bad thing  I am only joking however there is a serious sort of point to it dont you think

I find it hard to believe that you can hit someone and then drag them along for over a mile without knowing they are somehow attached to your cab?

Forgetting the guilty or not question. How can ANYONE justify giving a person a Taxi license who clearly cant speak a word of the language, of the country he works in?

The PCO in London can.

About 30'000 at the last count.

Of course that would be 30'000 'taxee' licences, opposed to Taxi licenses.

To be fair to the accused, his English could in fact be adequate for day-to-day converstations, but I suppose it could be different in a court of law context.

And particularly when he's facing a murder charge.

Taxi driver denies teenager death

A taxi driver has pleaded not guilty to the murder of a teenager who was dragged for more than a mile after being struck by a black cab. Scott Poll, 17, of Wednesbury, West Midlands, was knocked down as he walked home from a public house during the early hours of 26 February.

Ghulam Hussain, 44, of Grange Road, West Bromwich, has also denied a charge of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been granted conditional bail and will stand trial on 10 August.

The father-of-six is formally charged with causing his death by driving dangerously in Hollyhedge Road, Alexandra Crescent, Walsall Road and Hall Green Road, West Bromwich.

He entered his not guilty pleas through an Urdu interpreter.

17 & out drinking?

Whats the bets he jumped out in front of the cab and tried to hail it?

Sussex when you post these kind of statements, could you please acknowledge the source. I FIND that you are very selective with the material that you publish on TDO.

Why not try something adventurous and google it. :?

Then if Sussex is telling a big fat lie, or has been selective with his quotes, you can tell the world how iffy I am.

But I bet you don't. [-X

The problem with that is that many media links change, so when someone reads it in say a weeks time, it's a different story.

I find this rather disturbing that a taxi driver that, was licences in Sandwell or any surrounding LA .Where they are supposed to have a stringent selection process, for taxi drivers. One being a oral test .So I don’t think a properly Licences driver, could drive a taxi in Westbrom without speaking very good English. :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:
SANDWELLS ORAL EXAMINATION . Hac and PH
4) If you are a new applicant, you will be required to successfully complete an oral examination to
ensure you have knowledge of the conditions and legislation applicable to this licence.
If you fail the oral examination, retests may be taken until satisfactorily completed.
 So if a Taxi driver in Westbrom said he could not speak English . I would say he was telling porkies . Or the LA oral test was crap. Or that he was not a properly licenced taxi driver . :?:STREETCARS

But as I said above, it's not been stated that he can't speak English as such.

I mean, many English people living in Spain can no doubt communicate in workable Spanish, but if facing a murder charge they might prefer to communicate in their native language.
