Hmmm.....had to look that one up on Google.

And guess what came up at number 4:

You have always been the rough side, it will take years for respectability to be attached to 'London Private Hire', and to be frank when it does arrive I will be looking over the lake next to the summer house over Malmsjon, thinking of you running around old London Town.

Some things never change!

The truth never changes Dusty, you should know that.

For anyone who is the least bit interested, Malmsjon is a small lake outside Sodertalje where we have a summer house owned by her indoors folks.

But without a Swedish keyboard (3 more letters in their alphabet) the spelling will never be as it should.

Image Bored yet?

I seem to remember that was in reply to Blobby, what ever happened to him?

Sounds luvverly - I think I would find that kind of climate more attractive to the usual 'let's retire to the Med scenario'.

But given your attraction to it, I take it the in-laws don't actually live there?

I'm sure I saw him on the other day, but he certainly hasn't posted for a while.

Time will come when on all the large circuits both taxi and LPH work together, hand in hand, brothers in arms. :D

I've no problem with the Minicab trade doing what their meant to Mr rambo, the trouble is it would appear from the latest Transport Operational Command Unit, the Met police Tout squad to you and me, that 50% of touts they are catching illegally plying for hire are licensed minicabs, and thats where i and another 25'000 drivers do have a problem.

For instance if one of your drivers was caught in the act and fined at court, would your boss sack him / her?

Or would it be, I need the drivers, don't do it again?

And until the 'voices' and companys within your trade take a tougher, zero tolerance approach to their own staff, the problem will continue unhindered.

GBC, my boss would'nt sack a driver caught touting, because, as you say, they need the money.
This does'nt mean were all tout's, and you and I know who the tout's are  .
But none of us are perfect, including some hac's who have thier light on and pick and choose thier work.
I ask you this GBC, would you like to get rid of phv's completely?

Maybe in your manor?

Former NY Mayor Giuliano seems to have made it work well.

I've never suggested getting rid of Minicabs, but it seems even when caught doing wrong, the average Minicab driver gets a slap on the wrist, wheras the average Taxi driver has his license suspended for a couple of months, usualy for the henious crime of telling a Carriage Officer where he can poke his home visit / inspection (They turn up at your house to check the Taxi)

Well it's certainly more a case of 'zero enforcement' in my manor

So I take it you're all for more speed cameras, traffic wardens, box junction cameras etc?

Well he certainly didn't make the yellow taxis work well. What was it, medallions (plates) worth $3 billion and rising?

NTA heaven!!

By the way GBC, in view of your recent conversion to the NTA cause, any chance of you addressing the points I raised in critiquing the NTA submission re the DfT best practice guidance?

Your a big fan of the local London trade mag GB, when they write an editorial on the recent Edinburgh decision why don't you ask them to push the PCO and Livingstone to only license vehicles that have ABS? It is quite obvious why the PCO and Livingstone aren't concerned about LTI vehicles not having ABS, but don't you think you lot in London should be highlighting this safety feature?

Regards

JD

I gather it will be mentioned in the next edition of 'Taxi'

Theres a fundamental flaw in that idea.

Livingstone would probably agree, given it would be highlighted as a safety issue.

The new TX3 due out in the Autum is apparantly fitted with ABS, the next thing we would get is an instruction for all current Taxis to have the new equipment retro fitted at great cost.

I think he's made it clear he did'nt want the alternatives in London, Allied seem to have gone very quiet on the legal front to challenge the PCO's decision to retain the monopoly by LTI.

Edinburghs done well to make such a quick decision, and who knows in a couple of years we may get an alternative.
