Somehow I'd like to believe you, but given your history and renowned comments at the time of the 3maxblack case and since, it will take more than the above to convince me you just want a plate to work weekends if it suits.

No what I am saying is that is a possibility and the very least I would do. I know one guy who has a £6000 TX1 and only drives it at weekends sometimes Thursday through to Sunday more often or not three nights out of the four. His costs are cut dramatically by the very fact his taxi doubles as his private vehicle. No private car and no extra finance, insurance, road tax, or running costs just to get to his work.

Quote:
You've previously claimed that the PH don't go to the trouble of buying and licensing a car, the cost of insurance and buying a meter etc just to work on a Fri/Sat night so why would it suddenly be worthwhile to do that with a Taxi? If it makes no sense for a PH it makes even less sense for a taxi.

I never claimed the “PH don't go to the trouble of buying and licensing a car, the cost of insurance and buying a meter etc just to work on a Fri/Sat night”. A lot probably do if for anything just to have a nice vehicle for their family paid for by a Ph weekend radio circuit. But once again if his private car is doubling for his working vehicle it’s a huge saving and one of the main reasons the Hacks cannot compete. At the end of he day its work you use to do.

Quote:
Kind of blows your argument about a significant part of the rise in PH numbers not being just weekenders out of the sky. A quick count of the PH seagulls in George Street on a weekend night compared to a week night tells you that's how it is. Add to that the drop in PHC numbers recently. and that tells it's own story.

Once again I claimed no such thing. The drop in Ph numbers means absolutely nothing in the scheme of things. In the long term they are steadily increasing plucking one year out of five or six hardly makes a comparison. What I can tell you is the Ph from areas surrounding Edinburgh have risen dramatically and in line with the reduction in country work picked up off the streets. Add that to the current Edinburgh Ph fleet and you will see any reduction is insignificant.

Torn I am attempting to answer your questions and your cynicism openly and honestly this is your chance to debate the real issues.

Now you answer my questions.

Where do you see yourself in the next two years as a driver?

How much less are you prepared to earn and how much more are you prepared to pay for your rental or a plate to keep you in employment?

What happens when you find yourself out of employment for whatever reason where do you find work?

You want to try answering these questions TC?

When I entered this game all those years ago, there were guys like you that said it was a dying game, they wanted to change all the rules to suit their personal situations and bent all the rules in an attempt to get their way.
Well, if they succeded or failed depending on your point of view we are still here and its testiment to the endurance and professionalism of the Edinburgh cab trade that it still operates in the manner it does today.

Jack.

TornCasualty how do you know that these PH are doing seagulls??

i picked up at 10 george st tonight and it was a radio job no need to seagull.

i tell your ex passangers to stand in a doorway (as the dome area is like a rugby scrum at times) so we can find them with less trouble when they phone us to make a booking (they just love the service)and i think that the reduction in PH numbers you are talking about is that small it makes no diff i know of 2 guys who are putting cars on the road in the next 2months.

Your statement reads like a requiem to something that has just died. A sort of good old day's I remember the bad boys speech but the trade is still here.

The trade won't disappear Jack but within the next couple of years it won't be worth working in, if its not already. It's just becoming another low paid industry for the lower paid working classes. Any status it had is fast going down the pan.

Now why don't you answer the questions I put to TC from a drivers perspective? I would be very interested in reading your answers.

You really should get out more Gaz.

I obviously have a fuller, more rounded life than you, as I'm not tied to my computer, and certainly not tied to this forum. You should try it - you may find that the need for your anger management classes recedes

As for being Ross - get over it, you're wrong - I am very much my own man, and have never met Ross - like I said just because you repeat a lie on here, doesn't make it true - though on this site that particular truth seems not to hold.

As for answering your questions, when have you ever answered a direct question on this site (or any other aparently)? So - let's play it your childish way - you answer my questions first.............. and I'll think about it :doubt: :doubt: :doubt: :doubt: :doubt: :doubt: :doubt: :doubt: :doubt: :doubt: :doubt: :doubt: :doubt: :doubt: :doubt: :doubt: :doubt: :doubt:

23K each and no I don't regret it. If I got a plate tomorrow I would punt it at light speed.

If people like you wanted to buy it I would not try and persuade you otherwise.
