Any info that you can pass along would be great.

Cheers

and you'll still have backwards thinking HC drivers stilling at a rank in their 20 year old cab wondering why he's quiet and why the PH are busy as hell.

We first thought of using the system to take advantage of all the free text's people get with their mobile contracts.

All it is is a mobile phone on the desk thats is used to recieve the text's, we did not want to intergrate the SMS with our booking system, as we have seen this lead to overbooking and serious "Lateness" issuse's.

But what we did not see was the amount of bookings we would get from people who have difficulty booking a taxi "Normaly", ie: the deaf/hard of hearing.

This simple service has increased our booking by around 10%, and have you ever tried to withhold you number on a text ??.

Being in the mobile phone game now for nearly 8 years, i can possitively assure you that this is more or less impossible to withhold your number on a text message, so for this reason i think it will aleviate so many hoax calls, but obviously you will still get the odd P***K that is on PAYG and hasn't registered so wont give a dam :!:

God forbid !!
We already get loads of duffs via mobiles without adding to it too. The real trouble is that lots of people now get free calls at off peak so they ring all and see who comes first. This would simply add to the burden. What if you have nil capacity? Are you going to spend time texting back? Half our drunks at night don't know where they are anyway and it takes a skilled telephonist to work it out !! Need I go on. I am not against modern technology but this is yet another case of simply lets do it because we can and not because we need it - sign of the times now I am afraid !!! But I live in hope that pepole will somewhere along the line learn to look at the big picture on stead of the small £ signs when saying tings like this are great. I rest my case !!!

advantages of taxi by text is the ability to blacklist a number, you can also impose a charge of upto £5 for no shows, ( i believe it takes the credit off the phone as soon as it is on it ). you can set up text points with a number and say one is a restuarant you can send bulk messages with an offer for that establishment.
biggest downside as i see it at the moment the message comes to your pc so you really need an office envoiroment.

Quite a few of our customers use this facility, especially those that have higher volumes of student work.

What you have to remember is that there’s a whole new generation of people coming along now who, unlike us old buggars, would rather text than speak with a real person. Whether it's by text or the web, taxi companies have to provide what people ask for and the cost of the text replies has to be weighed against the any potential increase in business.

Not everyone’s cup of tea but I've not heard any bad feedback from users?

Bill
