Do you really think it's safe to drive 10 and 12 hour shifts Jack Cummings Plate 59?

I would really like to hear your thoughts on this.

Tell me is there a lot of owners or drivers who work these kind of hours ferrying the public around Edinburgh late at night?

Come on Jack lets have it surely your not going to back-track now?

Whats the rate for 2 weeks on the brew ned?

Jack

9 hours on a sunday, and only £230, geez PH is more lucrative, and I never sit for more than 5 minutes at the weekend, and the profits are greater when costs taken into consideration, and our plates are only £150 pa, and I thought hacking was where the money was supposed to be.

Anyway going part time, Friday sat night, 8 hours each, start a new job on wednesday, Sales Manger at a luctrative Audo Consultants, apart form Fri/Saturday nights, this games a bogie

Probably better to try and stick to the 40-48 hours, thats what I do, follow the EU guide, they really know what they are talking about. :?

Okay it's less cash at the end of the week but I still make a reasonable living, and as long as we are not breaking any laws thats all that matters, surely.

Excessive hours can be a problem for everyone in society but it can lead to problems in the penis department and that aint good, nothing worse than a useless [edited by admin]

Well PeeBee for those prepared to put in the hours (not to many remember) the games not a bogie, you were PH and thats no use to anyone during the week nights, the real taxis have that covered, because they are there in abundance, good luck in your new job as a "sales Manger at a Luctrative Audo Consultants".

does this not contradict your other post?

if we take the above sunday as an average, 5 days at 9 hours, and £230 takings (less costs) how can anyone make a decent living working under 48 hours?

BTW how long before the new "electronic tacographs" about to be fitted to minibuses and the like filter accrors into private cars and taxi's with Drivers made to take a break, and have designated full rest days between weeks (ala lorry drivers)

My comments re "games a bogie" were not meant to be insulting, it was said from a concerned POV, the hours guys are compelled to work are bordering on victorian conditions, 12 hours on your backside with no excercise is not good, infertitility as you mention, Piles, poor circulation leading to thrombosis, often poor diet due to grabbing poor nutritional fast food, thats not taking safety into consideration either, it's a disgrace that honest hardworking men and women in this day and age, have to put up with such dreadful working conditions.

Before becoming a PH driver I lke a lot of "ordnary motorists" had nothing but derision for taxi drivers, reactionary U turns, no signals (mind still no excuse for that) and often erratic driving, however now I have seen the other side I will never again tar all with the same brush, it's a noble proffesion being driven into the ground by draconian laws and no real regualtion, re number of drivers and hours worked, I feel an eu "shake up" coming on, and that will effect a lot of good guys, the guys investing in over priced plates are the ones I feel sorry for, it must be a huge burden given the earning potential.

Think I'll buy an old fire engine............I'll get me coat......

Trust me they know  you are only as taxible as your assets and if you have assets i.e. a house e.t.c you are an asset.

It goes something like this:

Taxman: we want 16k in unpaid tax

Taxi driver: I haven't got 16K zip

Taxman: how much equity have you in your house? Ah we'll take that instead unless you pay X for the next 10 years.

The wife then starts to panic and forces you to get a loan, work extra hours or sell the plate.

Now Jack Cummings Plate 59 don't forget to post your earnings and your hours like you promised      So far that's £220+220+300=£740 and that's only for 3 nights at the "quietest time of the year"  would I be right in saying a minimum of 32 hours worked so far?

How about a round £1600 a week with the drivers rental thrown in? That's £80,000 before tax Jack  you would agree with these figures now wouldn't you Jack Cummings Plate 59

Now how much did you pay the taxman for last year Jack, and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that.

Come on Jack you said you would let us know how good being a cabby really was

I hope he's not got a lot to lose      So far we have a Kings ransom in unpaid tax and putting the public at risk with driving to many hours

Are all your pals as clever as this one

Your hardly qualified gary thomson to pontificate about earnings in the cab trade seeing as you failed miserably on every level of the trade. In fact "failure" appears to be the only thing you succeed at   that ex wife of yours had a lucky escape

Now, ten hours driving maybe too long in some quarters but as far as driving a taxi goes, given the breaks in between fares, I dont think it is an unreasonable time to make a living, I would certainly like it quicker but we have to be realistic.

A lot of figures bandied about on here, I have and own a black cab and 2 phc cars (to the guy who reckons he makes more than a hack on phc there is a job here waiting for you  )Now I dont make vast sums of money but thru working hard I have been able to achieve a reasonable standard of living and I reckon most other cabbies in edinburgh do so to.
On the other hand we have "sponging bob" and his mates who reckon they should do very little and be given all the rewards for doing nothing.
When they find that life does not work that way the scream, shout, lie and claim everyone else is doing it all wrong when in fact all they realy need to do is get on with their job.
Dont get me wrong, I am all for change for the good for everyone in the trade and I emphasise "everyone".
Also, again I agree this job can be detrimental to your health if you dont look after yourself but show me a job that is healthy, the old adage "of a good days work not harming anyone" was a lie

When all said and done, wipe away the scum that is the likes of our sponging layabout thomson and this game aint so bad and their are plenty who work in far worse conditions than us.

Jack.

There you go again my little leach, threatning more than you could possibly acheive
Should you not be looking for a job instead of sitting about posting bile on here, I am sure your local brew wont be pleased when they find out your sitting about doing this and being paid by the state.
Still, giroday will be here soon

Jack.

p.s. Wrong again about who's pal I am   is there something wrong with your head  for the want of repeating myself my name is Jack Cummings.  some people are just to stupid for this world.
