YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS (EDINBURGH II)

A limited amount of taxis means a limited amount of shifts, FACT. Plate holders depend on an over supply of drivers to inflate rentals and plate premiums, FACT. Without driver’s all competing for the same job there is no hiked rental or plate premium, FACT. Drivers are putting themselves in a state of penury just to keep their jobs, FACT. Driver’s rentals do not reflect earnings or hours worked, FACT. With more drivers coming through the schools the only one reaping the benefit is the owner, FACT. The driver is propping up a trade which is haemorrhaging cash to its competitors on a daily bases, FACT. The Ph has more than doubled FACT. Work goes down but driver’s rentals and plate premiums go up, FACT. The drivers are servile idiots creating a rod for their own backs, OPINION. For most buying a taxi is not a business investment but an act of desperation, FACT/OPINION by attempting to secure their employment against the equity in their house, OPINION/FACT. This is the buy a taxi for 40k option and become a different kind of slave, OPINION. One that is terrified the trade will de-restricted, FACT/OPINION (A 40k investment and you don’t care if the trade de-restricts, I don’t think so).

Anyone wanting to disagree

Just report him to the council, it's fair to say they need to know about people making allegations about child safety. He will get the chance to explain himself at a full regulatory meeting. You never know might even get a wee suspension

Yes, can I just ask a question

Is it better to be on the dole? I cant see how sponging and being at the mercy of the state is better but maybe your more suited to it.

Jack.

Is that the best you can do?

Let me make it perfectly clear I ain't going back to driving taxis the rentals are too dear and the hours too long. I was prepared to do a little part-time but not at these prices. The trade has no future for a guy in his early forties, driving nights for long hours and putting up with dickheads for a pittance is not for me.

The trade in Edinburgh is on a downward spiral and this hamster has had enough. By this time next year there will be no argument as to how bad it is. The tuk-tuks might be the final nail in the coffin depending on how many are licenced.

It's just one big pis* take, Edinburgh Council are selling the trade down the river.

BTW
I have only phoned one guy and that clown wanted £75 a shift for a Fri/Sat night.

I would rather take my time and retrain this Internet is a wonderful thing you know.

I'm not saying it's easy but I'd had enough of taxis for all the reasons above. I think you get to a point where you want to take your chances rather than living like a hamster, it just becomes to much. You never know I might see about licencing a few of these tuk-tuks, word is Edinburgh will soon be full of them.

BTW "show me the money" remember your takings, post them up there's a good chap.

Not so, the owner of the vehicle I drive had difficulty getting a nightshift driver to cover holiday relief. Ending up giving a 3 nights rental for £120, and that included a Friday. I would say there is always someone ready to give a cheaper rental just to get their shifts covered.

Why write FACT/OPINION on this one ? Are you speaking from experience ?

I don't need the job the way you do 187ums nor do I have to believe the job is more than just that, a job. It is you who needs to believe you actually own something and it is you who tells everyone you are a businessman and a company director.

How sad is that?

Read my first post, you think I want to be apart of that? The council will pull the plug in Edinburgh just as sure as it will happen down where you are.

What will you tell people , how will you dress up your job then?

Dream on 187ums the council will burst your bubble without even batting an eyelid and it terrifies you.

One point at a time Ross right from the beginning.

A limited amount of taxis means a limited amount of shifts, FACT

Would you agree?
