earlier tonight i was third in the queue at the rank the first 2 taxis both pulled off to go to bookings as i started to pull down another taxi came flying down the road at high speed and dived in front of me. asking around several other drivers say he's done it to them but when they enquired the council says that there is nothing in law to prevent him doing it. Is that true ?

Section 64 of the 1847 TPC Act. Penalty on drivers obstructing other drivers

Any driver of any hackney carriage who suffers the same to stand for hire across any street or alongside of any other hackney carriage, or who refuses to give way, if he conveniently can, to any other carriage, or who obstructs or hinders the driver of any other carriage in taking up or setting down any person into or from such other carriage, or who wrongfully in a forcible manner prevents or endeavours to prevent the driver of any other hackney carriage from being hired, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding [level 1 on the standard scale].

Amendment

Maximum penalty increased by the Criminal Law Act 1977, s 31(6), and converted to a level on the standard scale by the Criminal Justice Act 1982, ss 37,46.

He's now claiming that he was picking up a booking even though his description of the booking was differant to what I saw but he now says the he has the customers number and that they will testify that he was pre booked

He can get away with that once or twice, but that's it. :wink:

I've now asked other taxi firms to let me know of other instances involving this driver i think a file of evidence is needed

Sounds like he needs boxed in everytime he gets on a rank.
