Can anyone clear this up

Youv'e picked up a passenger and been hired, they decide they want to go to a cash point, eg, off they go, and you wait, where you are stood is a no waiting area, or no parking area, can you be parking ticketed/ camera ticketed for that or is there a time limit or not to wait, I read somewhere that a Judge in a court case came to a conclusion that was no limit in time in that type of area if you was hired

As a PH if a job is a straight away booking, then the meter goes on when I have made contact. Be that verbal or a nice sexy wave.

If the booking is set for a fixed time, then once I have made contact the meter goes on when that fixed time arrives. Unless of course they get in before-hand.

Er I am on about you take your passenger hire and on the way they decide to stop off at, lets say, a cash point, and you have to wait for them in a no parking area, say outside the cash point, eg.

In london it makes no difference, you get a ticket.
The customers get very angry/upset when you have to drive half a mile from where they want to be dropped so you don't get a ticket.
Just another example of common sense going out the window.

I'm afraid there is no law, which gives a special dispensation to Cab drivers parked on or in a restricted area?

I posted the case of a London cabby who was given a Ticket by a policeman for causing an obstruction while waiting for a passenger on double yellow lines or something similar. He appealed against the charge of obstruction and was acquitted. However, he was acquitted because he wasn't causing an obstruction but in this day and age if a video camera takes your picture while you are parked in an unauthorised area for an unauthorised time, then you just might get a ticket in the post?

I doubt if that makes any difference - you can only stop on double yellows to load/unload set down/pick up passengers, so I don't think the trade has any special privileges in this regard. But what this means precisely I don't know, but I think it's just a question of reasonableness and common sense - ie a quick visit to the cash point is probably OK, but not a shopping trip.

I have never had a ticket of any description, because I don't stop on pedestrian crossings.

Who mentioned pedestrian crossings?

I never stop on a bend etc, it's just common sense where you stop, but we all do it (stop on double yellows etc). Thankfully i'm not in an area that even has traffic wardens yet, let alone parking cameras! (wardens due to start Oct 2008)
