Yes, for Mr Berlin it's £300-£500 per month.

For the rest it's £300-£500 per week.

For GBC it's £300-£500 per night.

If only you all appreciated how tough it is to make an honest days wage on the streets of the capital.

Buses, minicabs, touts, rickshaws, Flannagans, people from the North West who don't know their Chineses, from their Italians, the list could go on. . . . . .

1.5 million people wanting to be cab drivers?

I dont think we can stop anyone entering the trade, be they UK born or economic migrants, the question is over the standards.

You can hardly compare London to Plymouth

A city of around 260,000 with over a thousand HC and PH and a very low average local wage.

Just a quick message,

Where can i read the articles regarding the hoo ha about this chap employing taxi drivers from abroad as wondering if its same company as i worked for.

I have just given up taxi driving (was working in Swindon) - liked the job but just was not earning enough money after paying out weekly charges of £155 car rent + £105 radio rent + £70-£90 approx on fuel (£330 - £350 every week).

Please dont quote me on this as these are NOT my words - but was told by a regular customer that she was chatting to a polish driver who lives with a few other polish drivers (please note I have nothing against the polish drivers as we are all human) in one of the many houses owned by the owner of the company, who raised the normal house rent to extortionate amount so the house rent would cover the car rent, radio rent and obviuosly house rent.

The drivers would then go to the local council asking for help with housing benefit as the drivers would essentially be on a low income.

The local council would then foot probably the majority of the house rent therefore the owner of the company guaranteed all of his rent money (house, car and radio).

Very clever idea as very good business man but putting the drivers like myself out of work as too much of a struggle.

I would have to work 4 days, sometimes 5 days just to cover car and radio rent - this would only leave me a couple of days for my own income (minus any tax etc).

Its ashame as liked the job but sometimes you have to choose whether you want a social life and a family life.

Legal disclaimer: Please remember the above is an account of a customer I once picked up and are not my views on the matter.

You can have both, but it's easy to have neither.

Maybe the shared ownership option that I love will one day be the norm. Then you can't work all the hours god sends, and you have someone to share the bills with.

It'll end in tears, an idea scarier to the sane amongst us, than marriage.
