Hello

Can anyone confirm that Glass Mount Aerials are inferior as opposed to fixed mount?

Reason I ask is, I prefer a Glass Mount for various reason - but the company don't favour these and say they cause "TX" failures bringing the whole system down?

Anyone in the know with regards to aerails?

Charlie

Can't answer but would be very interested in replies - I drive the only TX in my office of over 100 cars and I have the same radio / top box as everyone else but mine hangs the system and I can't understand why either ..................... what system are you on? Mines on Autocab?

Well, went ahead and done it - got a Glass Mount fitted.

Worked Friday, Saturday night with no problems at all.

Data is fine, voice is fine.

I think it is a case of my firm were moaning due to the fact 100's of drivers are going to be moaning due to the fact they have had their roof drilled and I haven't.

Charlie

p.s I'm on Auriga (soon to be upgraded to Evo)

Just to make a few things clear due to talking walls etc.....

I FIRST gained authority before I went ahead and got the Glass Mount Fitted!

The statement I made "Worked Friday, Saturday Night with no problems at all" meant exactly as it reads - I, as in ME, PERSONALLY, AT MY END had no problems at all working with my Glass Mount!

According to the base when I got pulled in today, there is higher than normal Reflected Power (as with all the other cars on the system with Glass Mounts I assume)

If there is anyone out there needing further clarification, or need to know anything else, or want to tell any tales on me again - hit the PM button.

Why do you think JD is JD, TDO is TDO, Sussex is Sussex, GBC is GBC etc?

Oh, and Terry from the GMB is Terry from the GMB.

  @ the Terry bit

Oh well, as stated though, my post was true and acurate 100% on my part - if anyone can show otherwise, please do let me know.

Glass aerials as far my experience goes.

okay if put in porperly but can and will degrade the signal if put in incorrectly.

ergo, driver has aerial put in by "car phone install firm", comes to me 3 weeks later, with no RX & crappy TX on radio. :?: :?:

checking aerial with "bird 43" finds 15watts forward power, 13 watts reflected power. turns out the sticky pads the installer used soaked up rainwater during the recent bad weather and caused an RF mismatch.

driver just wants it sorted... one M8 & 1/4 wave later and hes at 15 watts forward, 0.5 watts reflected. :)

office can now hear him, 15 miles + away. :P

that was 4 years ago. and its still going strong.
----

so in short, they look nice, they cost a bit more than regular aerials, but more likely to fail IMHO.
