I post this in the hope that it will be allowed to remain. Apart from being a regular cabbie I'm involved with the local Naval Cadet Corp and apart from keeping kids of the streets and having a band adopted by the Borough we are desperately in need of funds and fund raising ideas!

Locally an idea has been raised to build the tallest tower of pennies in an attempt to break the World Record! We have started collecting and has anyone ever tried counting these things???

Well what I am asking is that if every member on here throws all their pennies in the ashtray and forgets about them - they can easily donate them to this Unit around the end of the year - every pound counts for so much and helps kids that have to face differing problems! Its only pennies - come on start collecting them!

Before Xmas as normal I will be arranging a Fancy Dress Day when locally cabbies dress up and give all tips to the unit - it would be greatly appreciated if this could be done on a National Basis - PM me if your interested please - I can arrange it so your local unit benefits as well!

BE WARNED - if this doesn't raise enough funds there could be a national Cabbie - O - ke competition to go along with out local one! You have been warned now - pennies please!

From someone who spend far too much time doing something similar, I wish you well. =D>

Just raised, with many other people doing loads more than me, just under £10,000 in a year.

Learnt where the money is, and where it isn't. But serious money can be raised with next to no effort by, believe it or not, car-boot sales.

We do over 100 car boots a year - I'm trying to think of something original and new to get people interested! Ideas please before I get evenmore grey hairs and wrinkles  Shucks looks like I'm a school girl on New Years Eve Again then  not a pretty sight I assure you! Maybe I should ask people to sponsor me NOT to dress up/down (depends on your view!)

In the same boat myself, if you know what I mean, we do sponsored cab pull, drivers and wives night out with raffles of course, apply for grants from the National Lottery, also see if the local radio stations are involved in any scheme, we have just got 1500 from Radio Merseyside, but a real big money maker is the local bingo they can raise up to £1,000 in one might. and of course at this time of year a really big Christmas hamper

You could have just donated a months salary?

What I mean is to organise them, not just have a pitch or two.

All those cars, maybe one or two hundred of them, paying £6 a go. Charging punters 50p to park up, 20% of the burger take, 20% of the ice-cream take.

Five or six hours work for maybe £1,500 profit. :D

Thanks Sussex - I'll have to look into that more.
