I don't recall ever saying that Terry? Whilst I'll post any news storys I come across onto the forum, as I'm sure you will do likewise, I've never said everyone who drives a Minicab is a criminal.

I'll take the preverbial pee, because I firmly believe the London Taxi trade is quite rightly acknowledged as the worlds best and most famous trade for all the right reasons, whereas the LPH (there, I said it ) are always in the news for the wrong reasons, and I feel a large part of that 'reason' is they're employing anyone who can stand upright and drive a car, irrelevant of the fact that they're not interested in the job, and could'nt care if they're sacked the next again day.

The Minicab bosses seem to do little to recruit the right staff, as they're constantly trying to fill vacancies due to the massive turn over of staff.



First of all anyone, as long as they hold a London Taxi license, can join the LTDA, their country of birth, surprisingly is'nt a bar to membership.

Secondly, mass immigration has been with us for over 50 years, I'm sure it won't surprise you to learn that many thousands of immigrants have done the knowledge over the years, and have managed to maintain a clean record, leading to a successful career and retirement.
Why can they make a success out of a Taxi career, with no blots on their record, yet many hundreds who have joined the other side cannot?



I agree, its a big 'if'.

I think you must remember the reason it will always be a big 'if', is that quite simply we're in competition with each other, just as Tesco and Sainsbury's probably would'nt help each other out.

The reason the doormen/women license proceedure is different than ours is due to the concerns expressed when the 2003 licensing act was being drafted.

The main concern was that ex-militia from Albania and the like would apply for SIA licenses. As this lot wouldn't show the sort of restraint that one would expect from a licensed doorman, it was decided to issue the guidance saying no proper checks, no license.

Just for the record, I'm not suddenly an expert on this, but I know someone who is the dogs balls when it comes to the rules and regs on drinking licenses.

Marshalls are a good idea, it's just a sad reflection on societey that we need them.
I for one would not like to be a marshall, people don't take any notice of the police, what chance do marshalls have. What we need is 2 marshalls and a police officer present.

Sussex i think were at cross purposes here,whatever these people could produce WAS accepted,offhand im not sure if Albania is in EEC,that would make all the difference,Czechs Poles are in so would get doorminders licence under same regime that gives PHV licences.

MrT the minister is Steven Ladyman,your normal degree of accuracy,or are you referring to another dept.
JD you say councils should have the licensing process removed from their duties.Still waiting for your alternative plan,seriously interested agree the current system appaling completely ambigious,and open to EXPLOITATION we want reform please post your ideas,you obviously have access to a vast reservoir of info and a lot of experience Terry

I understand what your saying Terry but my response would be massive and take up more time than I have at the moment. My intention is to put the detail into perspective in a future edition of Taxi Today so if you can wait until that time then it would be appreciated.

Yes, but the info isn't/can't be as accurate.

Basically the licensing system is taking a punt that the driver isn't Atilla the Rapist. And from time to time some poor soul loses that bet.
