Taxi Driver Online

How many others suffer the same shouted abuse when carrying passengers / top light off on way to pre-booked pick up from people trying to hail a cab? Is there anything that we can do about it as especially at week ends this behaviour has to amount to a Section 4 / 5 Public Order Act Offence due to the nature of the language and verbal (and things being thrown, vehicle being kicked etc) and physical abuse. There are plenty of CCTV camera's but never any actual Police to witness such weekly incidents. Last year one such person was seriously injured locally as a result of simply stepping out in front of a taxi already carrying passengers in an attempt to hail the already hired cab!

Grrrr! Its been a bad day!

tough one, maybe a different coloured light picked by the council could help, we all have this problem , light on/off looks the same to punters

had a incident about 6/7 years ago when a lad layed down in front of a lads ph to try and stop him.
driver didnt see him and squashed his head flat.

on a recent holiday to new york I noticed that the yellow cab top signs have a facility to display a sign which says off duty,it would mean the expence of buying a bigger sign but it would be worthit.

PH get it as well, girls lifting up skirts, flashing, boobs out the lot. Punters at 2am peeing with rain, they just want to get home. plus the odd kick as we drive past

PH driver here.....company i work for has a system were a specified 2 digit number is used when driver is in trouble, ie you call number and state where you are or are dropping.......... not much good if you've got a knife to your throat but as in most cases if you're experienced in this game you can hopefully suss out trouble before it happens

But you wanna see it when one's blown in! All hell breaks loose, drivers throwning punters out of cars, the lot.
The last one (2 weeks ago) 30 cars blocked a main road off both ways within 5mins!
It was a sight to be seen!

I think it should be an operator's condition of license that they have a well prepared back-up system in place for when drivers need help.

I only had to use the Emergency system the once - and there were cabs everywhere within seconds and as I was right on the border had two Police forces. Those initial few seconds are the hardest cos you really don't know what response your gonna get.

I've recently changed offices and instead of having to actually hit the emergency button on the data head or use the radio I've got two "panic buttons" one that I can activate with my knee and one by my right hand which make the Operators computer screen go a nive bright red until they respond to me and everyone else is blocked until this is done!

Hope I'm never in the position to use it ever again - but the good news was that the guy who went for me had a nice holiday at Her Majesty's pleasure.

Been told that when our new PDA based system comes in we'll have one button to press and the staff know exactly where you are via gps.

She has less say on weekend nights now, one of the other night managers runs it now. But now your a Hac, how do you go on? with only a few drivers on your system? chances are theres only one of em nearby at any one time.
