Quote:
It would be inappropriate, therefore, for suburban drivers to undertake such hires, as they would not have adequate knowledge of the central area."

Where do you start with a situation like this?

Properly licensed taxi drivers forbidden from picking up in their own area.

Where are the T&G for them? Where are the LTDA for them? Where is anyone else for them?

Or is this yet another case of 'Im alright Jack, you go f*** yourself'?

Its easy really, simple, like Terry.

If you want to ply for hire at Heathrow, or Oxford street or anywhere in London, do the Knowledge (all London)
Theres no bar to entry, no age limits, its just people are always looking at ways to cut out work.

Whats next? 'Oh those poor Minicabs can't pick up at the Heathrow taxi ranks!' :?

If you want the right to ply for hire throughout London, do the FARKING WORK and get a Green Badge.

If not, stop bleating, no one forced them to study Hillingdon, its their choice.

They've NEVER been allowed to work Heathrow, they know that before they start the Knowledge of their chosen sector.

As I've said above, no one is stopping them working out of the airport, its simple, do the Knowledge of London and fill your boots.

I drive back through Letchworth of an evening, I want to ply for hire there as its near my house, and people try to flag the cab :?

Where do you stop?

Its Hillingdon drivers wanting to bypass the system and avoid the time and effort that we put in. [-(

THe thing is GBC, for ken to say they can't do it because most of the jobs go into london is wrong. Can you imagine if you were not allowed to do the city, and romford yellow badges were.

Why, when Heathrow isn't near Oxford Street? It's in a surburban district.

Like saying the lads at Gatwick should do the London knowledge. :?

is'nt it the case that many (not all im sure so this is not me bashing taxi industry) taxi drivers at heathrow dont like the runs to areas in hillingdon? ive personally experienced this as have many people ive met.....as for the yellow badges being allowed to pick up, are the drivers prepared to sit and wait till a job goin to a yellow badge area comes? would there be a separate queue? sounds chaotic to me... in my opinion the green badges should keep heathrow, all they need to do is brush up on their suburban knowledge and be prepared to take EVERY job

Write to Ken then Sussex.

Ken Livingstone wrote:

On successful completion, they can then ply for hire at the airport. Drivers who have suburban licences would have been made fully aware, at the time of application, that such a licence would not allow them to work the airport rank."

I'll take it by that statement you now support the idea of free and open access at Gatwick, instead of the monopoly run by checker cars which excludes the local licensed Taxi's?
