Is there a list anywhere giving the names of authorities who have RE-REGULATED?

There isn't (to my knowledge) John.

But that is because it dispels the untruths told by people who demand deregulation ................ and it is those people who write the lists.

There are a few ................. but I think after the reassurance from government that Councils remain best placed, the numbers will possibly increase.

Is there a list of Authorities who have decided that de-limiting is not in the public's interest and have decided to re-impose a limit of the number of Hackneys in their area? I understand that Liverpool and Guernsey are 2.

Liverpool was an awful long time ago but there are instances of authorities deregulating and re-regulating on a frequent basis. The best advice I can give you is download the Taxi and private hire stats from the DfT each year and compare the numbers.

Maybe around half a dozen over the last ten years.

Gateshead have temporarily re-restricted after deregulation in 1998.

Time will tell exactly what will occur over the next 12 months, but we are encouraging the council to properly and fully manage.

36 policy changes due for implimentation gives us great encouragement.

Reading and Bristol are examples of re - regulators, in Bristol it went from 82 to 800 i.e. all and sundry

Yes, better the privileged few running taxis, rather than 'all and sundry' - your language has a real feel of 'baron' and 'serf' to it, Mr 187ums.

As for your numbers analyis, Bristol is about the same population as Liverpool and larger than Edinburgh? Yet it only has 800 taxis as compared to around 1,300 in Liverpool and Edinburgh. And plates are still worth £40k even with all those taxis!

Of course, you'd still prefer the 82 in a city of half a million people.

Well if plates are worth £80k then shouldn't you be blabbering about undercapacity rather than over?

And if there's such a problem with rank space why have Oxford Council hiked fares up to the extent that plates are worth so much? Presumably because they're economically illiterate?

80k? dont know where you get that value from, as for fares, when was the last time you used a cab in oxford? and i dont see the link between fares and platevalues.

However I do see the link between the restricted market and plate values, rental from drivers etc etc, the oxford survey showed that only one plate was required, obviously some bozo's have gone out and paid earth shattering prices for thier plates, and charge silly money for rentals
