There was a meeting today between the Liverpool cab trade and P T M I think they are called , I have been told the answer was No from the trade , they were also told that Manchester's fees from next year would be going to the same figure.

As usual Mr T you are correct there was a dissision, to reject the permits at the mass meeting at Liverpool airport. The rumours are that if; the owners of Liverpool Airport do not capitulate. There will be a Lime street station, type blockade, boycott. That was well before my time. But I would ask you, would that work in 2006?.

You know how close the trades are locally, the word is out, support will be there,

Peel Holdings own quite a bit of property, Liverpool airport, Merseyside Docks and Harbour, Manchester Airport, the Trafford Centre, I wonder what would happen if they were all blocked at once???

Taxi drivers face airport trade charge Nov 15 2006

I did actually state this last month.

Its nice to see we are ahead of the game but the permit charge seems a little OTT, therefore I am keeping an open mind about that figure being correct? The article does suggest that it is the vehicle that is being charged and not each individual driver therefore considering the Liverpool cab trades insistance that all vehicles are double shifted, means the charge will be split between two drivers.

I was told that a offer was made, if they agreed to pay a 1000 a year today, than that would be the charge...

JD You did indeed say there was a rumour, about airport charges. Every one I spoke to about it, laughed at me, the very thought of permits in Liverpool, was supposed to be a non-starter. Shows how much the people at the bottom know. There not laughing now .Very well done on being the first with the news.

One thing that did surprise me and I meant to ask the Captain about this, is did TaxiTalk know about the impending permits and was Mr T aware it was about to happen, before I mentioned it several weeks ago? I find it surprising that TaxiTalk were not aware of it considering it is in their own back yard because I've known about it for at least the last two months.

Just a slight correction SC, I didn't say it was a rumour, I said it was a "FACT".

I meant to mention it in last months issue of TaxiToday but it completely slipped my mind. However I was very surprised that it was news to those drivers who work John Lennon Airport. And also surprised it was news to TaxiTalk and Mr T.

JD, I have known about it for about three weeks, after all you did post it then, and whether Taxi Talk knows or not I don't know, if they do they might have been using a bit of discretion, after all it is likely to be a very volatile situation, as I think you know I know a lot of people in Liverpool, but Liverpool rules itself as does Sefton , Liverpool airport drivers have their own committee or representatives, many day-to-day things happen without being broadcast, the drivers have said NO Meetings between drivers Councillors and airport are scheduled for next week, what the outcome will be I do not know, it will be the Liverpool driver's decision, but Sefton and other areas are only a phone call away, Light Street station is open to all Liverpool taxis,

As a side note, a couple of years ago a Liverpool licensing officer decided he was God, until one night he was called home, it seemed a van had stopped by his house and four-men got out walked over to his car turned it onto its roof and turned it again and again and left it upside down in his front garden, he no longer works in Liverpool, true story....
