part of the problem is wav plates being sold to independants.
they dont want to hump wheelchairs.
especially if theyhave paid 50 grand for the plate.
And the rest of the problem is that people with saloon vehicles and other non wheelchair accessible vehicles are not prepared to invest in wheelchair accessible vehicles.?

GA, what new policies are these, I would be interested to hear about them. Cheers BB

When the exact details are finalised I will send them to you (PM an email address).

They are based around rising standards and introducing managable policies to provide best service.

So if these 20 extra wavs in Brighton decide to work on their own as opposed to working on a radio circuit, how does this help someone who needs to phone for a wheelchair cab?MAKE PH WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE AS WELL.It makes sense.

Ahh, befreind the cab driver? good for personal relations but distinctly amaturish for a 'intergral part of the transport system'?

The point of why these wav plates sre being issued seems to have been missed. Brighton operates a limited numbers policy. The last survey completed by Halcrow said there was no unmet demand, except for WAV cars required when a disabled person calls a taxi company. So as PH are exempt from DDA, the LA decided to issue 20 WAV plates with the added condition that they must be on a taxi company. Simple.

Are you perhaps suggesting a percentage of a private hire fleet should be wheelchair accessible?

Cant see that being too popular with some in the PH industry

Captain, No I was not suggesting anything, I was just trying to point out why these HC WAV plates were being issued, and the conditions that will apply to them.

I must admit thats an interesting condition? I suppose this is another of those council conditions that is applied in the hope they are not legally challenged? Maybe the 20 guys should get the plates install a radio and hand it back after the first month and wait for the council to revoke their license and see what a Magistrates court has to say about the condition?

Regards

I don't know the legals on this matter but I have heard the council took the best option as they saw it, not to delimit and make the trade unstable and also try and help the wav users at the same time. Before anyone has a pop this is what I was told by someone who attended the licencing meeting.

Make everything purpose built by say 2020, with an upon replacement of existing vehicle commencing from 2010, that'll set the cat amongst the pigeons.
