I can see your point about radio operators but I don't agree with it. The next thing you know is that we will all have to write down the name and address of every person we pick up off the street or at a Taxi rank. Plus it will more than likely have the effect of negating the Gladen judgement which in turn would hinder inovation.

I'm not for living inthe dark ages therefore Inovation is the last thing I wan't to hinder,

I don't think you'd have to take the names of people you picked up off the street, its more a case of those operating radio systems...some of whom don't have HC licenses?

What I think I have in my own mind would re-enforce Gladen.....after all isn't the Gladen judgement basically what we all thought should happen anyway?

One further point with regards to the trades working together, I don't know if you saw question time on BBC 1 last night, but the panellists were;

PETER HAIN MP Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and Wales

LORD TRIMBLE Former Leader of Ulster Unionists

MARTIN MCGUINNESS MP Chief Negotiator, Sinn Fein

MARK DURKAN MP Leader, SDLP

JEFFREY DONALDSON MP Defence spokesman for the DUP

Now, call me a little dramatic, but if that lot can sit around a table and work out there differences, then there's surely a chance for the taxi trade?

So lets ask again does the rest of Europe suffer the chaos we do, do they have PHV HC or something else.If anyone knows id appreciate a briefing.

I understand there's various parts of Germany and Holland where you can get a jolly good debriefing, proving you have enough Euro's of course. :shock:

What changes would the Sefton Taxi and Private hire trade like to see?

Considering the NTA has been around for quite some time in its capacity of representing a section of the Taxi trade what changes would those affiliated to the NTA, like to see? Surely these people must have thought of many changes that are needed to current legislation? Perhaps they prefer to keep their thoughts secret in case the majority don't agree with them?

And what about the T&G? No doubt one of their pet changes would be every licensed Taxi had to have a turning circle of 25ft?

There are lots of things that the Hackney drivers in Sefton would like to see clarified. for a start, clear clarification of where the driver stands when someone refuses to pay and whether or not they would be charged with kidnap just for taking them to the police station, there is lots of stupid stuff, that needs nailing down firmly so that it applies in a uniform way right across the country,

my own point of view is, that some licensing officers are stupid, and that just because somebody is in a Office in London does not mean they are any cleverer than a licensing officer down this way. there has been talk about a new Taxi Act, I know how easy it is to stop it happening,

I suspect that somewhere in europe there is a better system, I also suspect that that system is known to various posters here, and they have no intention of informing us of it, for no doubt that system would be contary to their vested interests.Someone going to prove me wrong?????

I'm holding back zero, the only European taxis I've seen are at airports and in resorts.

New IRU Taxi Group President

Geneva – Hubert Andela, Secretary General of the Dutch Taxi Association KNV-Taxi, was elected President of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) Group “Taxis and Hire Cars with Driver” for the term 2006-2007, during the Group’s meeting in Geneva on 8 November. He will succeed Jean-Paul Gallé, who has been the Group’s President for 11 years, on 1 January 2007.

Nina Nizovsky, representing the Finnish Taxi Owners Association, STL and Thomas Grätz, Secretary General of the German Taxi Association BZP, were also re-elected Vice-Presidents of the Group.

President-elect Hubert Andela declared that he would continue to build on Jean-Paul Gallé’s achievements and that he will count on the support and personal commitment of each Member of the Group so that, by working together, even the greatest hurdles can be overcome.

He added: “Some of the priorities which the IRU Group “Taxis and Hire Cars” will deal with in 2007 are the inclusion of taxis in the EU Directives on access to the profession, road safety and security, accessibility of taxis for mobility impaired people and the contribution of taxis to sustainable development in urban areas.”
