This stick I am proffering has two ends, JD, and you have, with your remarkable talent for grasping the wrong end have once again unerringly chosen the oppposing end to that which I was offering.

I was making the observation that an awful lot of people who contribute to this site appear to take the view that December is the only month of the year where it is possible to make a living, and that Friday and Saturday nights are the only times that Taxi's and PH are required.

For the vast majority of the Taxi trade outside of London, Friday and Saturday night are the only nights they make a decent living. Without doubt they are the busiest nights of the week and without them this job would take on a whole new perspective.

I was in Rawtenstall saturday morning 2-30am and I spoke to a driver who said his normal takings on a weekend were between 70 and 80 pounds. They have two little night clubs and the town was absolutely dead, twelve or fourteen cabs were ranked up with no takers.

I don't know about me grasping the wrong end of your mythical stick but those guys in Rawtenstall probably realise that 80 pounds on a Friday night is as good as its going to get but they still buy cars and they still sit there plying for hire in the hope that things get better. In a town like Rawtenstall people tend to spend their nights out in Bury Bolton or Manchester and its no wonder trade is slow.

The bottom line however is the same as I said to you, "no one twists their arm to drive a cab". The reason they do drive a cab is probably the same as you?

To my mind I don't care what motives a person has for driving a cab and I don't have the right to criticise someone who might only want to work part time. The choice is down to each individual how they choose to work and if some say they can only make it pay at xmas and weekends then who are we to say any different?

My sources say last night was mobbed with punters and idiots alike.

So indeed the silly season is well up and running.

As for busy days, I'm quite lucky in that I'm nearly always busy. \:D/

I think you will find that the stick is metaphorical rather than mythical, because the stick exists. What is brown and sticky? A stick.

I do not criticise, I express surprise that a living can be made working in December and ten hours a week. Good luck to those that do though. I personally do not believe it can be done though.

The busiest weekend of the year is now approaching, with Lincoln's famous Xmas market opening this thursday. A quarter of a million visitors expected, the City will be swamped. But there will be 51 weekends until the next one. Grab that stick JD, no, no, the OTHER end!!!

Your valued insight is always welcome on here UTU, where would the forum be without your input?

Anything else to add to the numerous sectarial orientated football threads perhaps?

May I suggest another 'Taxi from heathrow' story, its been a few week's since your last one.

What about 'Northolt and its influencial residents'?

There's a few to be getting on with.

PS: keep us updated about 'Amman from Afghanastan' .
