I've never thought of JLA as being a hive of activity but then again the last time I was there was about 26 years ago, I suppose things have changed a little since then?.....the Zeppelin's have gone

is it not a case of they put a price out publicly but always were happy with a lower price. maybe the price they eventually accept is the price they were / would be happy with before it came out.
knowing it wouldnt be acceptable they came out with a higher price expecting to be beaten down on this price and ending up at the one they always wanted...?

isnt this a game of economics where stating a price but really happier with a lower one.

ie: selling your car. they make an offer on your asking price but you both know you'll probably meet in the middle in the end...!!

Yes I suspect all restricted areas have both single and double shifted cabs and likewise unrestricted areas but Liverpool and every other restricted area are telling their council that the cabs are operated on a double shift system which more or less guarantees 24 hour coverage. This amounts to a blatant lie.

No prize for who said this.

However, in areas with restricted numbers, the Local Authorities are able to take advantage of a “double shift” system to ensure better coverage during the night time hours.

JD[/quote] So as usual the T&G have been found out , telling porkies nothing new there .The airport is a particular bad example, most cabs as I have led to believe ,are single shifted, if you saw the state of some of them, you would no the reason why. One of the conditions of the permit is that the airport has, the right to inspect cabs and take them off the road .A major sticking point. I think driving slowly, round the airport, which is what the Liverpool taxi trade are going to do. Will do FA. What do you do, the airport are loosing money. The airport can not afford to back down. The Liverpool taxi trade, are still living in the eighties. They are not going to back down. Who in there right mined, would be a union official. The idea of barriers , i have been told was mentioned to the airport , but was rejected . regardes streetcars

The last I heard was on Monday, at the last meeting between the two sides the hackney trade was told that they could have a 20 per cent discount and if they did not accept it a private hire company would be operating from the 1st January..... I'm also led to believe that T&G have sent a letter in to the airport manager stating that they have no confidence in PTS.

If the Airport are serious about giving the contract to a Private hire company then it would appear the Airport are holding all the cards. Under those circumstances the best Liverpool drivers can hope for is to negotiate the best price deal possible. At the end of the day the Airport is only going to issue a set number of permits so whether it's per cab or per driver the majority of Liverpool drivers are going to miss out. It surprises me that the reality of the situation has not been adequately articulated to the Liverpool Taxi trade.

Regards

JD

Win or lose on Friday I will be standing alongside Tommy supporting the Liverpool drivers....
In the past Liverpool have sent politicians back to London with a flea in their ear.. but this time there is a difference, this is being solely orchestrated by the T&G....
on all other major occasions they were led by a committee that was made up of all different groups, I wished them well, But I have not seen the organisation that it takes to make things work....... just being in a union is not enough.... ask the Liverpool dockers.. eusasmiles.zip

I was part of the committee that organised the demonstration that closed Liverpool for six hours when Stephen Norris came, I co-ordinated the demonstration working with Liverpool and the neighbouring boroughs.. it took a great deal of organisation but we brought in 1500 cabs, and worked within the law, the polices intention was that the cabs should meet and then be escorted through the city, only we had other plans.... and our's worked a treat ,
The law requires they notify the police when organising a demonstration,

Are you 100% aware of all the facts?

Well I appear to be aware of the facts of the situation, and they seem to be in contradiction to what streetcars has stated, except for the fact the action is off on the chosen day.

I suppose streetcars will make an apology if he is wrong about the union?
