your right terry so back to the point of alternatives:

whats the effect of vehicles such as petrol / battery hybrids
wont the effects of disposing and manufacturing of batteries
have worse effects than that of oil based fuels in the long run...?

heavier vehicles more wear on tyres so more rubber to be manufactured hence bad on enviroment and then the disposing of these tyres...?

THE ANGLO-NORMANS

In Henry II of England an unexpected reformer appeared. The murderer of Thomas a' Becket seemed ill-fitted for the role, but he undertook it, and in the first year of his reign (1154) he procured a Bull from Pope Adrian IV authorizing him to proceed to Ireland "to check the torrent of wickedness to reform evil manners, to sow the seeds of virtue."

Labour meeting over funding anger

Mr McDonnell said Labour's link with trade unions was vital
Labour Party bosses are to hold an emergency meeting over controversial plans to limit political donations - including those from trade unions.
Labour MPs are angry at the proposals in Sir Hayden Phillips's funding review which they say would end the party's "historic link" with the unions.

Sir Hayden has suggested a £50,000 cap on donations to all parties.

But left-wing MP John McDonnell said there had been "absolute fury" among the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP).

The party's ruling National Executive Council is being convened later to discuss party funding.

'Hidden agenda'

There has been no official word from Downing Street on whether Tony Blair supports a cap on donations.

But Mr McDonnell said it looked as though the prime minister was backing the proposals and suggested his "hidden agenda" was to break the party's link with the trade unions.

"I think there will be uproar not just among the PLP and the trade unions but also across rank-and-file members of the Labour Party as well," said Mr McDonnell - who has said he will run for the leadership when Mr Blair stands down next year. We feel we're being sold out."

'Cash for honours'

Education Secretary Alan Johnson, the former head of the Communication Workers' Union, also said union ties should be defended and enhanced.

He said they offered "highly regulated, transparent funding from working people".

Sir Hayden was asked by Mr Blair to examine whether agreement could be reached over changes to party funding.

I see no reason why donations from trade unions should be exempt from the cap

Sir Hayden Phillips

It followed allegations, denied by all concerned, that honours have been given to people in return for people donating, or lending, money to political parties.

In a memorandum seen by the BBC, Sir Hayden suggests a £500,000 limit on donations from organisations, falling to £50,000 in four years.

He adds: "I see no reason why donations from trade unions should be exempt from the cap."

Trade union members pay a £3 annual levy, which its leaders can then use to help fund the Labour Party.

But Sir Hayden is understood to be suggesting that each union member be registered as an individual donor - which could reduce the influence of union leaders on party policy.

The Times reported on Thursday that Sir Hayden is also recommending a £12.5m spending limit on general elections and giving extra state support to the Liberal Democrats and some smaller parties.

He has also suggested a cap on spending between elections as well and a ban on anonymous bodies donating funds.

It would mean all the main parties would no longer be able to get multi-million pound donations from individual supporters.

All the main parties say they want the process of funding to be more transparent, to help increase public trust in politics.

Sir Hayden had been due to publish his final report this month, but it is thought to have been postponed to next year

Hasnt been a good week Terry?

The conspiracy theorists cant seem to believe that the guy who drove the car was pi$$ed. And the route chosen was to avoid the press and was apparently chosen by the family.

As expected the Stevens enquiry is a cover up 18 eye witnesses not interviewed. There is no doubt that the BROOD mare was executed by the Royal family.Quote PRINCE PHILIP

"did anyone seriously imagine that we would allow the mother of the future King of England mary the son of a Bedouin camel dealer!"
The Labour Party was created and is financed by the Trade Unions and others all members of unions have the oppurtunity to opt out of political cons very few do, many that do are from the far left. This idea occasionaly raises its head, it wont happen.
The conservative Party is financed by big business, non of the shareholders are given the power to stop contributions or indeed vote on it, tory version on democracy.
These plans are merely the last vindictive throw of the dice by the warmonger Tony Bliar no chance!!!!!!!!!!!!
As for the Ireland question we can debate it for ever and NEVER reach agreement, I am delighted that the cease fire is holding and the bloodshed on all sides has stopped, John Lennon "all we are saying is give peace a chance" The only incident of note lately was that idiot Stone charging into Stormont the other week he was roundly condemned from all sides. There can be no doubt that a 32 county republic of Ireland is now nearer than ever. The Royal family will definetly in my NOT view survive the death of the present Parasite laughingly referred to as head of state the sooner the better good riddance.I still favour the Russian solution a very fine example of how to deal with criminal parasites. We wont agree anyone want to talk about PHV HC??????????????????????????
UP THE REPUBLIC!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought you might suggest the enquiry was a cover up, I think it goes something along the lines of it not suiting your particular belief, and to be honest I don't blame you for taking that standpoint, although I should add I disagree.

Regarding the funding of the Labour Party, well you are obviously correct, the conservatives are funded by business, the same business the labour party has been trying to get into bed with. But lets not beat around the bush here, the Tories were kicked out mostly due to sleaze allegations, its quite ironic how this government has seemingly taken on their mantle.

You miss my point regarding Ireland. I suggested the English were originally asked to invade to sort out the Irish Church by no lesser man than the pope.

Terry,

Since when hasn't the church been behind some of the most despicable crimes against humanity, I seem to recall something called the Spanish inquisition?

I my opinion the Arab bloke is on a personal crusade, possibly because some would consider them liable towards using a driver who was pi$$ed as a newt.

I think you're right, we're not going to agree on this. For example the Fayed family is related to the notorious arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi. I guess you know this, but because the tragic accident that killed Diana suits your argument, you are prepared to overlook all of what has been written about this family to suit your own agenda. I don't think I'd do any different mind.

No Capt we wont agree, but im pleased the debate is being conducted in a civilised manner, weve both learnt something over the last few weeks, your never too old or young to learn.
I ignore or overlook nothing in this debate, and most of the participants disgust me.Funnily enough the only one I have any time is Phil the Greek hes a disgusting snob,a racist, and a ****. bu
t he dosnt hide it, the press talk of his gaffs, [slitty eyes whatever] no gaff he dosnt give a flying f--k and says exactly what he wants including the above statement on DIANA.
He also shows extraordinary good taste in detesting Charlie and his other 2 idiot sons. The only one he has anytime for is Ann a real chip off the old block ignorant arrogant racist freeloader.
Phil also choses not to sleep with his wife, and what man would want to look at that ugly poson dwarf every morning, more good taste.
He told the world the truth about Diana, the enquiry declined to interview him I wonder why?
86% of Daily Express readers who took part in a phone poll, believed the dook, in that the royal family had her murderd,so im not on my own.
Can you explain while files on this familys activities are deemed so dangerous as to be denied public access for 150yrs, nothing to do with their flirtation with one Adolf Hitler???
To sum up for me i would be well pleased to see them all shoot each other no doubt youve already gatherd that!

I think Prince Phillip is actually one of the best royals. As you say he doesnt mince his words and says whats on his mind (are you related  ).

86% of Daily Express readers? Now is that the silent majority or the brainless one?

I believe lots of countries flirted with Adolf Hitler, even the Soviet Union
