judging by all the input on the TDO site there is something wrong with the job as a whole, is it because its so out of date, the rules and regs
some LA's say this, some say that, you can't have this, you can't have that, you can't do this, you can do this but
I don't hear anything like this from brickies, plumbers, bus drivers, train drivers, motor mechanics, why us??
why us indeed
It may quite surprise people to actually read my own point of view
The licensed trade is a multi million pound business, yet for the most part it is controlled by local councillors who have never driven cabs, been involved in any type of self employment and for the most part make decisions on an industry where they are not qualified.
Furthermore, the advice given by LO's is very often partisan to the officers own beliefs, this works both ways, and both have been cited by JD in recent weeks.
One recent example that comes to mind is the NTA working with the NPHA to try to get the government to issue guidelines to local authorities on definitions of 'serious offences', in other words section 77 1976 LGMP act.
We all probably accept that most local authorities need this new power and we all probably accept for the most part it will be used sensibly. Unfortunately we are all also aware that in some cases it wont be. This is why both the NPHA and NTA have raised concern.
All in all, can considering were 24/7 business offering an essential service to all in the community (especially at this time of the year), I cannot for the life of me imagine Tesco to allow councillors to dictate how their stores are logistically supplied.
