The activities of our elected government cost us significantly more than the Royal family.

I would suggest that the Queen should regain the power ........... and take it out of the hands of people with an agenda which regularly opposes the views or best interest of the majority.

The explanation is not a long one.

Its based wholly on personal development and career opportunity.

One chooses to be a politician, one is born to Royalty.

Billy Connelly had it bang on when he made the comment, "the desire to be a politician should bar you for life from ever becoming one".

You constantly bang on about your 103 MP's ...................... but they will only give you their ear when you give them something back, and that will be more than sponsorship mate.

Long live the Queen.

I think I said I didnt mind him, he had and has a rare ability otherwise known as 'common sense'. But after him I think we'd be looking around for a long time before someone else springs to mind.

We have no say in our government now Wolfie.

We do not vote for anything other than our local MP. Every other aspect is decided for us ...... not by us.

Freedom - to do what exactly ............ we are not free in this country, we are probably the most monitored country in the world. We are TOLD what to do, and then told that they are telling us to do things to protect ourselves. I will give the seat belt law as an example, perhaps you could explain how me not wearing my seatbelt would have an effect on anyone else, I ask this as laws are there to protect a person from anothers actions.

Democracy - we don't get asked anything so are you suggesting that being able to vote someone out after they have fooked you over for 4 years is democracy ................... because I don't.

Human Rights - Slavery - Selective Breeding .................. "wrong", Wolfie I think you have lost the plot.

RIP - Mike Dickin.

Long live the Queen.

Charlie Wolf for the weekend nights on Talk.

My posts were mean't to highlight that the government were even more costly to us than the Royals.

However I do have a "sort of" answer, although I'm sure questions will be raised about its chances ................ but here goes.

We have a group of people who act in governmental duties whatever political party is in "power" ............ that group is the Civil Service.

Now lets say that we hold an idea that the people making decisions should be knowledgable of the sector they are to "manage", and therefore appointed on the basis that they are the best person to do that job, rather than who is the best mate or who gives the best blow job.

We could then be presented with choices, and those choices could be clearer than political policies. For example we could be offered a 50% reduction in fuel duty and a VAT rate of 10% in return for a 3% increase in income tax or a reduction in income tax and retention of fuel duty and VAT rates (figures purely for arguments sake). People could then vote on which proposal they prefered rather than the political party.

Its a very rushed idea, Wolfie, and one which may or not have any merit but it could just be that government in its current guise is not our only option, after all it seems to me that the only real bone of contention is who is regarded as Head of State, and that is something that will always be controlled by someone other than us.

I would rather stand beside our current monarch and her decendants, as its invariably the politics rather than the policies which decide our future when it is in the hands of those who seek power.

Long live the Queen.

Mike Dickin

Chris Lowrie remembers the former LBC presenter, who died last Monday

He was known as the grumpy, gruff man of radio but I'm going to let you into a secret: he was actually a teddy bear and passionate about life. He loved his horses, the countryside, fast cars and the odd drink.

I first met Mike back in 1989 when he returned to LBC and presented an afternoon show on what was then called London Talkback Radio (Our Medium Wave station at the time). At first I was frightened of him because he was this big burly guy who had a reputation for being fierce. But he wasn't really like that at all. Yes, okay, he did get a bit bad tempered at times, but I soon discovered he was a friendly guy with a warm heart.

He was one of the last of the old troupe of hard living talk show hosts, and I know that many of my ex-LBC colleagues and friends at TalkSport will miss him enormously. So shall I.

God Save the Queen.
