Quite some time ago Gwent passed a resolution stating, by April 2007 all cabs had to be wheelchair complient . Does anyone know if this still applies or have the terms of the resolution been relaxed?

Regards

JD

If it is Newport Gwent (other boroughs within) then the answer if your dates are correct is almost certainly yes. They started out by claiming that it was to do with Government directives and then altered it to suit. The council are the most dictatorial bunch of hippocrats you will ever come up against, they allowed london cabs into the city, plated them for six seats then claimed it was a mistake a year later. They would then only allow the drivers to be plated for 5 seats, stating that it was for the safety of the drivers, in-case he got attacked etc, but would not issue an instruction that the front seat should be taken out.

I argued that if it was to keep us away from passengers who might attack us, then we should not get out of our cabs to assist passengers who would be right along side of us. The reasoning being that we would be very vulnerable and unable to get away, Ummmm no sorry you have still got to assist :? . No logic whatsoever, but I do believe that they have an ulterior motive.

I argued the very point regarding different disabilities - I mean can you imagine - the last stage coach bus rolls into the bus station. All that is available is black cabs that they are physically unable to climb into, or a Hackney saloon car they can plonk themselves into and off they go, of which may not be available in the future.

However! if the Hackney saloons are taken away how do you get a Private Hire car when you do not know the City or telephone numbers to ring one.......... I suspect it is a ploy to make people wait around until the early hours and MAKE them use public transport, Ummmmmm [edited by admin].
