Cabbie’s knifepoint robbery terror

A TAXI driver in Burnley was left terrified after being threatened with a knife and forced to hand over his takings.

The driver, who works at a private hire taxi rank in Burnley town centre, was called to a pick-up outside a chemists in Crowther Street in the early hours of Saturday.

When he arrived in his silver Vauxhall Vectra shortly before 3am, he saw two white men in their 20s who were dressed in dark clothing.

Police said one of them approached the driver's window and threatened the 31-year-old with a large kitchen knife, demanding money.

The driver, who lives in Nelson, handed over approximately £100 in cash before both robbers ran off up Crowther Street.

DC Lynda Ashworth of Burnley CID said: "Fortunately the driver was not injured because he sensibly complied with their demands straight away.

"But he has been left extremely shaken by this, and we are appealing for any witnesses to contact us on 01282 472149."

This driver should have just drove off and left the Ned's standing there, you should only open your window about 2 inches if someone approaches your drivers door, and if something like this happens move your body to the center of the car and slam it in first and drive.
