Not necessarily Andy7.

Being treated the same etc, means that there shouldn't be barriers to entry for some, but not others. So if drivers still wish to drive PHs, so be it.

But if they wish to drive and own HCs, then there shouldn't be ancient barriers to entry.

As I have recently said, to me it doesn't matter if there is one tier, or dozens of them. Provided they are free and open (now where have I seen these words?) to all, then it matters not.

I think a one tier system without the quotas will eventually happen. With perhaps the limos and prestige cars being registered, instead of licensed.

Maybe they will have to have PSV licenses, and a CRB check. But I think the current Taxi and Private Hire trade, will just be the Taxi trade.

Heaven only knows what they will do in London though. :?

Dear Cruisin,
I want vehicle manufacturer/s to go to the drawing board, listen to what we want and take it from there.I concede that to expect a government to come up with the money might be wishful thinking but lets look beyond these shores and think that other countries within the Union will also need wheelchair accessible vehicles. The market suddenly does not look very small. If they can find money for farmers not to grow things we might stand a chance. The market in this country might not look so small either after the OFT report and I will remain optomistic (it is the only thing that keeps me going). :D

Ged,

I admire your optimism, but would suggest you don't hold your breath. I don't think any of us are going to live long enough to see these kind of ideals come to fruition. Is the taxi you desire going to be a bit like Concorde - a joint venture, lovely to look at but a limited working life due to extremely high running costs?

Dear Ged,

Perhaps,

But is it WA or able to turn in 25ft?

(they might even get it to play for United as it is over-priced and under-used)

Alex,

We'll ask the touts what we should do, as we wouldn't want to upset them would we?

Alex,

If that were to be the case I wouldn't want to pre-empt their reply, but do you think they'd ask for mugging, sexual assault and rape to be made legal? They might claim that this would save a lot of police resources and allow them to do as they please and let anarchy prevail.

The drug dealers reputed to be in the minicab fraternity have got their way over bringing about a seeming legitimacy to canabis. Aren't we lucky to have such formidable minds amongst the illegal opposition?

Cruisin' Cabby

the question was: should private hire cars and drivers replace foxes to allow the nobility driving hackneys to shoot them at will.

I mean, cant you remember anything, damned alzeimers

You never give up dusty! in many towns there is a brake being put on private hire, age of vehicles and knowledge tests but two examples, there will be more.

Yes Wharfy, the brake will slow things, but not stop the process.

Take Brighton, for example, similar conditions for HC and PH. HC static for years (until now, of course), while PH have increased by over 100 in the last three years.

Dusty

I would rather not take Brighton
Ive heard enough of thier corrupt practices to last a lifetime
