LTDA, around the 9000 figure.

LCDC, about 1700, but more militant than the above.

T&G, as above, but work alongside the LTDA on many issues.

GMB (LPH), about 12.

The reason I feel it is important is because I want to know what mandate these so called representative organisations have from the whole of the Taxi trade when they say they represent not only me but the whole of the Trade. I would much prefer that they said they represent their 50 members rather than the trade as a whole? At least that would be an accurate statement.

You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink.

What I'm saying is that membership to our association is open to any licensed driver, and each member is entitled to one vote.

If I, as a representative of our association, petition our council for more ranking spaces in more prominent areas of the town FOR ALL HACKNEY CARRIAGES would you not support us. If I petitioned the council for a fair fare rise would you not support us.

I believe that the cross section that makes up our association ensures that our mandates reflect what most, if not all, of those who choose not to join would like to see introduced.

I often sit in meetings when this question is raised, and it is raised by PH operators who, lets face it have operations where democracy is not even considered. Such people also only ask for things that will benefit their own drivers and therefore their own business, so in reality the number of people the are there representing is 1, themselves.

The total number of members is insignificant ............. the number of people who will benefit from requested changes must surely be the only consideration.

We will stop negotiating when we stop achieving what our membership want us to achieve.

We may have achieved more if we had not had union influences holding us back for so long.

If you call achievement grovelling Wolfie then I am a groveller.

You just keep looking for a bandwagon to jump on so that you can claim the total credit for other peoples hard work.

I do not spend my life on my hands and knees, and why would I want to give them some AGG as you put it when we are working with the council to implement changes we tabled.

We have achieved 36 policy changes to date, including a temporary restriction of hackney carriage licenses .................. and we achieved this by working with the council and not against them.

Listen to the people who have made the mistakes Wolfie, listen to the people who are willing to accept that they have made mistakes and have worked hard to rectify them ................ then you may understand what works and what doesn't.

I dont agree with petitions, never have, just a publicity stunt as far as im, concerned.Remploy is a national issue might bring it to the publics attention, thats their decision.
PETITIONING councillors on industry problems, not my chosen route, too much cap in hand about it for me! ie grovelling, normally the method adopted by LICKSPITTLES! Just MY opinion as made clear below!
GA your being succesfull you say. I believe you, if it aint broke dont mend it, I use different methods equally succesfull.
DECISIONS ARE TAKEN BY THOSE THAT TURN UP!

Petitions show support ............... support shows public will ................. public will is what the councillors have to bow to.

Back that up with accurate facts, public benefits and the route forward and a will to work with the council to achieve the goals set out.

Threaten them .................. undertake actions against them ............. and you alienate them.

Remember the council are there to provide, administer and enforce the licence ...................... they are not responsible for licensees making a living.

That is why approaching the council as an employer they take no or little notice ............... and in my experience that is how unions approach the council.

I hope that the GMB is successful Wolfie .................. I hope they help their members achieve positive change, but you need to be aware of the councils responsibilities, and the fact that they are only responsible to the public.

G.A.It is no use trying to educate a person who is firmly entrenched in an outdated belief that God gave birth to the unions. and therefore have the Devine knowledge of how to negotiate at each and every level, courtesy, respect, are not part of the concept, and very rarely will you be able to find one who is prepared to re-educate.....? Mate..

The point you miss GA is who puts the individual cllrs there, the unions, and they dont remain there if they get up our noses. Given the drivers join the unions they then control the councils. This scenario terrifies the EXPLOITERS such as MrTurd, hence their continious barrage of inanities!
THE WORKERS UNITED WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
