Maybe one of the reason PH has gone from 100 to 800 in Edinburgh is that they have worked out there are 365 days in the year, not the odd one or two.

Just a thought.
Yes your right .You rip people off saturday night , they look in their wallet sunday morning . You know the feeling . No one likes being ripped off . That trip in a Taxi in the week, will be a private hire . That is why Liverpool is in such a state and P H numbers , have gone through the roof . regards streetcars

I think the key to this is the offer of money. I have never dictated a price unless for a country job. But the fact is, well healed punters don't want to queue with the scum. I merely point out the benefits of not queuing, the 40 minute wait, the cold, the wet, and wouldn't you know they are happy to make offers of cash that would make your eyes water.

What's wrong with that I ask you?

You say something like this ' how much would you be prepared to pay to avoid standing in that queue for 40 minutes freezing your nuts off'. And as if by magic out comes at least a score. Then you might say something like 'as little as that' then out comes a fiver on top.

You might only be going a couple of miles up the road. Not bad for 5 minutes work eh

The punter thinks he's won a watch. I'm happy, he's happy. The only people not happy are the ones in the queue and the cabby's picking up the scum. Well you know what they say 'you can't please everyone'.

I think the reality is there will always be those who are prepared to pay for the service they require. Once they are aware of the unique selling points of course.

As I said before, I don't wait on a cab at peak times, I just pay what it takes to get one.

Seems fair to me

It was the Ph who started it. With not enough taxis on the road the Ph would rank up and seagull the punters right from underneath our noses. I just joined in.

Skull, Let's say you have been given a job to pick up and when you get there someone offers you a large amount of money to take them and you do, what about the proper customer?, straight on the phone to controller screaming at him. You should always take the job you are given.

I don't blame any driver trying to earn as much as they can within the hours they work, and I'm far from being an angel, it's just that from my experience it's cost us all in the long run.

Maybe if we could trust one another it might be different, but what's the chances of that ever happening?

The trick is to park by a rank that is full of people but no taxis, and sit with your light off , and when somebody comes up to you and asks are you for hire you say no, I'm already booked, then you wait for the bidding to start.....

If a driver want's to do that then that driver has no right to complain about the state of the industry.

I left the casino in York Pl one Saturday night, walked past the rank at the playhouse (full of scum) down on to London Rd. A city cab on a booked job was looking for a flat. I walked up to him, he said 'I'm booked mate' I said, that's right, Haddington £40 and handed him 2 score- the rest is history. He called in and told the control he had a flat Tyre and switched of his data unit.

You work for your family, first and foremost, then yourself, the taxi company then works for you. You decide what money you make or lose, the bills and the decisions you take to pay them are yours.

No apologies, no excuses, and no explanations, make your own decisions and take your own control.

Who are you to decide when someone should work for less? Oh and spare me the greater good of the trade routine. It's a dog eat dog world and we're all dogs.

Everyone trots out this moralistic sh** when it suites them, lets talk real world.

When you pay my bills, I'll listen to your opinion, untill then....

Okay Mr T what don't you understand?

I know you think everyone should bow and scrape to the likes of you, while asking your permission on how to be a good little cabby, but here's a surprise. I don't.

People that thrown money away in a casino , obviously have enough to pay their bills, or is this where plates one and Two went?? I don't think I have ever met anybody who spends as much time on their hands and knees, in your own mind as you. why??

Tell me Skull, have I ever introduced you to my brother Dr T. he is a very famous psychiatrist and will be visiting me for the next week or two, I have a feeling that he might find your problems very interesting, as a favour to you I could ask him for a moment or two of his time .ps he always calls me young T....

Skull, I understand what your saying.
Picture this, 2 car job, your pick up is a £50 fare, the second car's job is a £5 fare, the other car nicks your job because it's £50, would you moan, after all the other driver is only trying to earn a living.

I my experience, the people who moan about stroke pulling are the biggest stroke pullers themselves.

No offence meant.
