Owners know the value of their plate and in general its a concensus of the whole Taxi trade as to the current market value. Unless they are desperate, owners are are not going to sell their plate at a price dictated by anyone but themselves. Where plates or anything else for that matter are restricted, then it is nearly always a sellers market, hadn't you realised that?

JD I have been involved in this trade for 16 years and to date I have never known a concensus to be taken to dictate plate prices.

The balance between what one can expect to get and what someone is willing to pay is what decides what value anything has ............ If for example Ford were to decide that they thought the new Mondeo was worth £50,000 for the base model how many do you think they would sell. If by contrast they decided that it was worth £500 they would not be able to keep up with the demand from purchasers.

The taxi plate situation is absolutely exactly the same.

Large values are always associated with cost of a plate, but I have already said that a person could go and buy a brand new Mondeo and a Gateshead Plate for more that £5000 less than the cost of the TX4.

So the issue is not always one of cost but one of opportunity and availability.

Mr Jasbar talks about the difference between a triple shifed car and three drivers driving their own vehicles ................. and claims they will benefit. How on earth can that be the case when they will all want to work when its busy and be at home when its quiet.

This was illustrated to me recently when a mate went to a PH operator and was told there were no radio's available for him and he would have to wait until someone left in order to get one. This is the first time I have heard this for years now, probably since most offices are what we call "open", where drivers can come and go as they please. The crunch here is that the office in question is "shifted" and drivers are told by the operator when to come in and when to go home, something which has continued with the support of the drivers.

I am also interested how these people would expect to make a living if, or indeed when, the WTD is introduced possibly later this year.

All I'm saying, I suppose is, that there are some possible eventualities that should be properly considered. It could well be that YOU need to rent out your vehicle in order to make it viable to keep it ............ I'm sure you would be fair with any rental IF you had to ................. but the fact remains that some may not have a choice.

Still if it doesn't effect you then you won't consider my observations as fair.

Not true here I'm afraid.

Plate transactions, which are illehgal under the legislation, are manipulated by a private company, ITS.

They operate a secret bid system, and the buyer and seller don't meet until the deal is done. There is no direct negotiation.

So, what we have is this company, ITS, effectively making the market, indeed manipulating it.

This has resulted in a steady increase in plate values, around £125 perweek since incorporation. Allowed to prevail this system will deliver £125K plate values in around 5 years time. Think of the problems de-restriction would bring then.

The time is right to do it now. I heard on the grapevince from another city's solicitor that she had been advising for years that the restriction of licences was unsustainable in current legislation, particular market controls.

As for the claim that three drivers will be chasing one job, it's nonsense.

There already exists considerable latent demand which is being missed. Everyone who walks home, or even part of the way, because they can't get a taxi is work lost to us.

I also believe that the ready availability of taxis will have a significant effect on PH. Given the current situation, and the fact they had no problem taking work from us in the past, I'm not going to lose any sleep over this.

I should have added that manipulation appears to be happening because the plate prices rose inexorably over the period. There was no dip when market conditions were poorer. This suggests to me that another influence was being exerted other than market forces.

If I'm wrong, perhaps ITS would care to tell me so, and provide proof that I have erred?

:D

How many of the last lot of plates given out in Edinburgh have been sold by who got them?

How many people are arguing for another plate after having one and sold it on?

Are the requests for plates being made by people who intend to use them or are they being made my people who intend to sell them?

Have you had a plate for free and sold it Torn Casualty? - NO - not ever

Unlike Skull the puppeteer who has twice had plates and twice sold them, and at the time of his failed 3maxblack application was heard on several occassions and (if I rmember correctly) admitted on a forum that he would sell the plates gained by 3maxblack to the first "stupid b4$t4rds" that would buy them - small wonder everyone in Edinburgh questions his motives if nothing else

Is a level playing field not one that provides the same opportunities for everyone.

Is it not the case that anyone wishing obtain a HC plate in this area has to pay a fee to a current owner.

Is it not the case that current owners offer for sale their plates, and therefore no-one is forced to purchase.

Is it not the case that price for such a plate is determined by how much a person is willing to pay.

When the issue of fairness is raised it is only relative to the perspective of the writer ................... Mr Jasbar believes that it is not fair that he cannot get a plate for free but believes that it is fair for someone to lose £50,000 as long as he gets his free plate.

I believe that we need to seek a way that safeguards everyones interest and the attitude of Jasbar that he couldn't give a flying fook about anyone else does not bode well for the future of our trade.

And never forget that Little Jimmy's puppetmaster is on record as saying that if he were to be given a free plate he would immediately sell it, as he has done on two previous occassions. I never asked for the incorporation of Taxi Licence Plates. I don't make the rules. The buying and selling of plates, or should I say the 'back door transferability of plates' was something, certain members of the trade pushed for, not me.

I have never believed in plate value, because there is no value. Not unless you can fool someone into believing otherwise, and no, that is not down to me either.

There is no intrinsic value in a Taxi Licence Plate, fact, but if someone wants to give me 50k I will sell every-time.

Your rules, not mine.

BTW, phone up Edinburgh Council and ask them what a plate is worth? They will tell you 'only the licence fee'. Then ask who owns the plates? The will tell you 'Edinburgh Council'.

It's a Con, plain and simple.

TC, you seem to know a lot about Forth Street?

Can you elucidate why it appears to be on lockdown just now?

I was expecting them to have cashflow problems on de-restriction.

But a wee birdie tells me that plates have not been selling for some time now. Whoooppeeee. Perhaps that bar steward the Skull had something to do with this? Oh, and me as well?

This means that Mr G, Greenhalgh not Gladstone, having re-mortaged his house to fund cabtivate, then selling two taxis to fund cabtivate, then providing us all with a laugh on the Dragon's Den trying to fund cabtivate, then re-mortgaging again to fund cabtivate, then bringing ITS into the company to fund cabtivate (through plate transfer business), then discovering that the award winning headrests on the bulkheads of TX4's prevents his screens being sited there, is now in some difficulty?

Oh dear! Woe is him.

I guess we only get what we deserve in life.

However, the good news is. The Skull and Taylor have arranged it to be possible for him to drive his own E7 for only £190 per week.

Markie will be able to work the hours he decides, not an owner. He will be able to work around his own family needs, and those of the sequestrator he will by now be on first name terms with.

All letters of gratitude should be sent to:-

Cllr Wigglesworth
Convenor, Regulatory Committee
City of Edinburgh Council
High Street ( not for long)
Edinburgh

The goings on or otherwise in Forth St seem of great interest to you, and are of absolutely no interest to me. YOU are the person making claims about Mr Greenhalgh, I know nothing and have no opinion on the matter, other than I hope you're able to substantiate your claims - you ARE able to substantiate your claims aren't you :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

Other thing Jim - you seem to have forgotten to answer my questions

You're not trying to avoid answering them are you. Your bluff and bluster is fast being seen through by most here

TC, it wasn't that long ago you accused me of not answering your questions. I then made a serious and honest attempt to do so. I then started asking some of my own. You disappeared. But now you are back talking the same old sh**.

Have a wee look at the evening news?

Jim was right all the time. Now what was, it you were saying TC?

Was Jim right? This question requires a Yes/No answer.

Let's see if you can answer honestly.

Serious and honest attempt - yer having a laugh - being invited to face you up at the Maybury garage after you'd been hammering the airport, doesn't strike me as honest etc.

I disappeared as I got bored with your hijacking of every thread, and unlike you I have a life outside of driving a cab - you on the other hand, having left the cab trade (voluntarily or otherwise) still can't let it go.
