So the rate of VAT should be different in Bodmin than in London, or income tax?

As for the electorate, in some cases the folks paying the licensing fees are no-more than 1% of the electorate, so councils can f*** up at will.

Whereas if 100% of the electorate had to front up for council's f*** ups, then there would be far fewer.

The reason there are many amatuer lawyers is because there are 400 odd different councils, thus 400 odd different bands of drivers.

If there was just one set of rules, then you would have just one band of drivers, and that would be a bloody big one.

There are surprising few rules, just plenty of differing interpretations.

Sussex the licensing fees must finance the process, which to me means different rates.
as a trade group whether your 1% of the electorate or more IRRELEVANT these politicians have to be selected, so theres your in. Transport is a very emotive subject, particularly with the users of it.
What one person would consider a f--- up others wouldnt hence democracy. the message get involved in the politics, as we are in London and Brighton.
DECISIONS ARE TAKEN BY THOSE THAT TURN UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If taxi licensing was brought under the banner of a national and regional agency or organisation such as the Traffic Commissioner we would all be paying a lot less for our licenses?

I'm sure those who have experiance of PSV fees will correct me if I am wrong but If my memory serves me well the test fee for a 9-22 seater PSV vehicle is £53.00 and the fee for a special taxi licence is also £53. Added to that you have the convenience of multiple owners in some circumstances only having to pay a single fee for a number of vehicles, rather than the cumbersome method of Hackney carriage and Private hire owners having to pay an administration fee for every vehicle they own. When you consider the badge fee on top of that then you realise we are being ripped off left right and centre. For What?

If a VOSA mot test costs 53 pounds then why the hell do some councils charge 253 pounds?

Regards

JD

Who would enforce the regulations laid down by this "regional group".

Who will fund that?

Will they have the opportunity to make a profit?

Is this not, as it seems to me, to be a request to take something away from a group because of their lack of knowledge and put it in the hands of another group who do not have knowledge but are in a position to make profit.

I'm concerned that this is jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.

Could we start a campaign to take control away from all councils, and try to get into the hands of the traffic commissioners, if they only charge £53 .00 to put a bus on the road, how much would a taxi be.????????????
If we where to contact the commissioners would they listen????
It would be a total waist of time contacting MP,s as they never listen unless there are brown envelopes available

I would start a campaign for councils to retain control of taxi licensing.

In fact I would start a campaign to get councils to take more control over taxi licensing?

What you are talking about is based on cost to you, and if you can prove that the costs to you are greater than the costs the council incur then you can get a reduction in your fees ................... that is if YOU are prepared to do the legwork to gather the information.

I think you have just seen an opportunity to save yourself £20 a year and have not probably considered the possible further consequences.

The Government certainly won't change legislation in my time but they might in yours? In the next few months I intend to highlight all the failings of councillors and the licensing system under them. Those who want to see councillors retain licensing do so because they believe they can manipulate councillors into doing their bidding? Mr Gateshead Angel and Mr Captain Cab don't like the fact that there would be one set of rules and one fixed fee for the whole country. They know quantity controls would go and that's the only reason they don't want councils to lose control of licensing.

The recent request from Carlisle TOA to restrict numbers highlights the firm policy of the NTA in that respect but it also highlights the fact that Carlisle TOA and every other TOA would not be able to request such a policy if licensing was in the hands of national and regional bodies. In other words the NTA and every other organisation would be impotent in that respect and for a change they would have to concentrate their minds on appealing to the whole of the Taxi trade, instead of just a minority.

I'm still wondering how half the TOA in Carlisle have authorisation to use the NTA email facilities, does this apply to every TOA in the country or could it be that Carlisle has more than its fair share of NTA officers.

This Newcastle business about cross border hiring highlights the stupidity of some LO's and also our licensing laws but the dinosaurs we have in the Taxi trade will remain dinosaurs until we change the licensing system, so that the law is abundantly clear and fees are uniform and transparent.

Regards

JD
