 Post subject: Autocab's D21 Data Head

We have been running the autocab system for 14 months now and our 1 year warranty is up. They gave us a chance to continue it which we did at a cost of £140 a month. In the last 2 months 4 data heads have gone wrong and they have charged us £30 + £12 postage + VAT to repair them, as the cover does not include the equipment in the cars.

My Question is does anyone know the re programme code for them to save me keep sending them back to put a code in.

Edit 1-
The fault seems to be that they have lost there memory and can not be picked up with gps / nak anything which is sent them.

The charge is not that bad at all, less than an hours engineering charge. What you should be concerned with is why the units are loosing their mem. Usually with the majority of older style units its when the driver is starting the car and there is not enough juice in the battery and it causes spikes which knacker the units.

Also when drivers jump start their cars and dont switch off the equipment when doing it.

I would keep a log of the units that are going faulty and see what cars they are going faulty in, just in case there is a pattern.

I’ll vouch for what Radioman say’s there because exactly the same thing happens with our older units. One thing I would add though, before actually replacing the battery, make sure the power lead is a direct feed and not just tagged onto the dash wiring. Also check the connections are tight and not corroded (including the inline fuse).

As for the costs, that’s pretty much what we charge for repairs and covers mainly the administration costs.

Come to think of it that makes sence. All 4 data heads which have been sent back have gone wrong first thing in the morning "when the driver starts work for the day".

I have just set up a message to remind them to switch there engines on first :D .

Most drivers on my firm won't jump start anybody, it can bugger up the car's ECU.

Tell me about it. :x

New car just a week old and the battery goes flat. AA jump starts me and gets me going. Shortly after, 80mph in the outside lane I get a big beep and the message steering lock activated! :shock: Can highly recommend Vanish for removing embarrassing stains. :lol: :lol: :lol:
