Edinburgh IPL

We have it on good authority that, if as much as one licence is granted some of those on the Interested Parties List (IPL) will be applying and are prepared to challenge the council in court if necessary. I think after 15 years waiting I would be doing exactly the same.

Needless to say there are others who recognise the councils weakened state and are considering making application also, simply because the boys have won their case.

I only hope they have the nuts to go-4 –it.

I wonder if the worms are really on the turn.

It costs £875 to apply or 50K+ to leapfrog the IPL - like I said before - GO-4-IT

Yup, forget the pup.

My application comes up in April. I can't wait.

If the council relies on Jacobs to deny, then the argument against it is sound. We take that onto the appeal court. After this decision?

However, Jim Inch has gone on record to state that up to date demand information will be available by then. This acknowledges that no such information is available now and therefore no grounds to deny.

remember I asked before the application for such information. None was forthcoming. It still isn't. Remember Coyle. The Council acknowledge in the Court of session through QC Armstrong that Coyle would have prevented the denial of these 41 applications. It knew all along they should have been granted. I wonder what the hell the council thought it was doing.

Back to Jim Inch then, whose position is clearly untenable.

So, apply now. let's get the game going.

The rest of the guys need to get the bottle to take a punt especially those on the IPL.

I don't think they will get a better chance of breaking this farce wide open.

Any up to date Taxi rank observations will be blown out of the water because jacobs is already on record as stating only 32% of hires are undertaken from Taxi ranks. Besides there are 80 ranks in Edinburgh and from past experiance CEC have only ever observed a handful, and for a very short period of time. Plus these observations are unlikely to be Independent, they probably won't have assessed demand at hotels or other public places or even canvassed views of the travelling public, so they will be hard pressed to convince a court of law that they can be sure there is no unmet demand.

I'm sure they won't bargain for whats in store.

Regards

JD

I think the guys in Edinburgh are getting itchy on the trigger. I've had a number of calls telling me some are thinking of applying. Especially with two applications already in the frame.

Those on the IPL are mega pi**** off.

I think this is where it becomes a game of who has the biggest balls.

I one of 41.Didnt go to court as could not pay legal fees and sherrif gave the council an extension. I never took my money back and council refused my plate and not sure if i need to apply again or just take a chance and ask for a plate as they were wrong not to give me one.

Ask them to issue the plate but first state your position in relation to the court ruling. Then contact your Councillor and MSP if you are not successful. You might want to contact the Council Ombudsman with a complaint of maladministration while going through the process of demanding your plate. Once again use the court ruling to support your case. Remember, they denied your plate but kept your money.

We are pulling out the stops to make sure everyone gets their plates. I don't know how successful we will be but here's hoping. No one should have to go back into court if the council back-down and do the honourable thing.

The pressure is most definitely on the council at this moment and hopefully they will cave-in, in the not too distant future.

I wouldn’t advise someone who has already risked his hard earned to do it again but I think it’s worth a punt.

Also:
Contact andrew.picken@edinburghnews.com he is interested in how the council stole your money.

Stick it to them

BTW, if you feel intimidated or just need some assistance contact jasbar@btinternet.com or PM Jim through jasbar or myself through TDO.

Yeah its a great idea ...................... get hundreds of people to apply for a HC licence .................. get the council to cave in and give anyone wishing to have a plate one each ..................... hundreds of new cabs on the road laughing that they haven't had to pay for the plate ...................

I only hope that there is serious unmet demand otherwise all these new plate holders will be wasting there time acting as a HC and will end up taking their TX's to a PH operator seeking a radio.

I doubt people think about what they really want, working PH in a TX HC has got to be more expensive than working a saloon PH ..................... still you know what your doing

No GA, just qualified Cabbies having the choice to own or drive without having to pay hiked rentals or false plate values.

The London model no less, Quality Controls. This is what empowers people. You give them power, you don't take it away to prop-up a false market.

Parasites like you only no one way and that is to feed of others by using them.

I have a huge degree of sympathy for you, for what it's worth.

Typical of the way some councils abuse the money they have got, against those that gave them it.

S*** system that's only supported by s*** councils.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't most taxis in Edinburgh been doing this for years?

Or do you differentiate black cab circuits from PH circuits?

Didn't Wayne Casey say that he does the vast majority of his work off the phone?

Perhaps Gateshead is different, but AFAIK most HCs in the country do phone work, except perhaps in London 8)

Serious unmet demand?

GA, over the 14 years I've been in the trade hackneys have increased by 20%. PH by over 600%.

Former council leader tells us Edinburgh's economy is "burgeoning".

He tells us that there are more hotel rooms and the occupancy rates are higher than they've ever been.

Edinburgh Council's bus comapny is extending its service.

Nightbus frequency has been increased to a half hour service.

The Council's bus company has introduced its own taxibus service to the airport.

The Council has secured a budget of £582 million for a new tram service.

Rickshaws and the new Scoot service, competing directly against the taxi trade.

The airport opening up to hackney taxis.

The introduction of the new Airportcarz service.

And, out of all this, hackney taxis alone, of all these transport types, have no increase in demand?

You're having a laugh!!!!!!
