Skull technology is a aid and will help you do your job especialy to the place you dont know that well in and out of town.

iam in the process of doing my brief and have to say that i use my sat nav less now having learnt more by studying the city and in the time i have been doing PH i find that local knowladge is better than the sat nav.

the sat nav does help at nights when you cant see numbers on doors but they are no use with new builds and some streets are just not there try and find ormiston terr, crighton place or albert place (i could go on and on as there is loads) with a sat nav you have no chance

sat nav is a aid to the job but not a replacement not by a long shot IMO

I never disputed the fact that local knowledge is better than Sat Nav. The point I made was that with Sat Nav you could gain the local knowledge while gaining practical experience doing the Job. And yes, Sat Nav is an Aid but so are Maps. The fact that you have Sat Nav and are now studying maps to gain greater knowledge proves my point. This is why Ph drivers make such an easy jump to driving a Hack-you being one of them.

I for one studied the knowledge of Edinburgh and passed the brief with very little experience of driving in Edinburgh. The test wasn’t the hard part for me but gaining practical experience was. And believe me, I would have much preferred to have driven a Ph for 6 months or a year using Sat Nav than going in cold after having passed the knowledge.

The Ph has increased by over 300% in the last few years. I would say that the largest part of this increase is due to Sat Nav. What little knowledge you might have of Edinburgh is now no longer a barrier to driving Ph in the City.

BTW, Hack drivers now outnumber the owners by more than 3:1. I believe the greater part of this increase is due to guys like you making the jump after a period of time driving Ph. The ratio of drivers to Taxis is now reaching saturation point. This is why rentals and plate premiums just keep going up against a backdrop of falling customer numbers.

The trend over the last 5 years is to pay out more, to work for less, while working more hours.

Enjoy

All an Edinburgh taxi driver needs now is a Sat Nav unit and local knowledge supplement. You can gain both experience and the local knowledge by actually doing the job.

Why sit and study when you can learn on the run?

Tried to use mine today to find the White Swan in Louth.

Wouldn't have it.

When I found it, turned out it's "Ye Olde Whytte Swanne" Can't these bloody yokels spell?
