I have a bernard mansell olkswagen cab, which im really pleased with but for one little thing! My local councill will only license me to carry 7 passengers! ( i have 8 seats with seat belts and insured to carry 8)
They say 1 can only sit in front with me. Something about i might touch the passengers leg when changing gear( what a lot of crap).
I could get quite a few good jobs for 8 seaters.
any one got any advice on what to do?

1)Take Council to court, ask them what steps have they taken to prevent saloon car driver touching passenger during gear change.
2) Get a local plastics supplier to make a thin perspex partition to prevent contact.
3) Get yourself hermetically sealed into a life bubble so you no longer have any physical contact with anyone at anytime and go on the dole.
4) Ask for, no insist that all local councillors in your area have a phychiatric assement before meetings.
Finally a WARNING. Trying to deal with local councillors at any level can seriously damage your mental health. Their type of stupidity is particularly infectious and there is no known cure.
Dont you just love this as a career. Its all good.

I would appeal to your licensing councillor if you haven't already, then go to the ombudsman with your complaint.

It costs nothing bar the price of a stamp, but you have to have a refusal from a councillor first, not the monkey LO.

isnt there?
then why dont purpose built cabs have no front seat?

have a look at use and construction for public passenger service vehicles and lets have your view.

but please dont make heavy weather of this, enforcement officers read this and many of our brothers are allowed front seats.

just dont push our luck too far.

Construction and Use regulations apply to PSvs (which can have front setas), and according to the stuff I have read, PSV regs do not apply to hackney's which are regulated by their original certification when the manufacturer applies for general type approval.

I do take your point with regard to conversions though. But if front seats are fitted in the original manufacturers submission for M1/M2 then surely the Council cannot add to that unless there are suitable bye-laws in place to enable them to do this?

maybe they have the bye laws the metropolitain act forbids front seats.

and lots love to be like London be they right or wrong.

grants from government stipulate no front seats.
