Murder inquiry after taxi driver's death

A murder investigation is underway after a Neales taxi driver who was found injured in The Rye, Abbey Way last night died shortly afterwards.

The man, who has not yet been named, was found by members of the public at around 8.50pm yesterday. When police arrived the man, who is thought to be in his mid 30s, was then taken to Wycombe Hospital in Queen Alexandra Road, where he was pronounced dead a short while later. Detectives say they believe the man may have been stabbed.

Investigating officer, Detective Supt George Turner from the Major Crime Unit said "It is the early stages of the inquiry and I can not release more information at this stage. However I would appeal for anyone in the vicinity of the Rye near to Abbey Way end between 8pm and 9 pm last night to contact the police. Any piece of information could prove vital to the investigation."

Anyone with information is urged to contact detectives, via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre, on 0845 8 505 505. If callers don't want to talk to police and don't want to give their name, they can call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.

A local man was later arrested for murder and is being held at High Wycombe Police station. An incident room has also been set up. A second man has been arrested this morning.

I think the question has to be: Do politicians give a sh** about a few murdered cabbies?

And some would have them act a judge, jury, and executioner….

I don’t think anyone deserves to be judged by these political types let alone have the conditions of their self-employed status dictated by them.

Now who was it that was saying councils and councillors are best placed to decide anything?

No, merely an opinion.

So why will some councils allow CCTV but others won't because of privacy concerns etc?

Why should there be a postcode lottery on drivers' safety?

The 'councils know best' advocates should be able to provide an answer to this.

I know the NTA and other stakeholders held a meeting with the DFT on this subject in the past two weeks.

Ah, so at least the NTA doesn't think councils know best then. =D>

Or in the past fortnight, at least [-(

Surely driver safety is a Home office matter? and a national issue?

A welcomed move Cap.

But I have massive concerns that this issue will drag on, and more of us will lose our lives.

I think it is going to end up with the old scenario of the bravest and the daftest 8) but i think that is the way it is these days as we have next to no protection as we go about our daily duty  .If our authorities cannot protect us then who can 8)
