Gang pose as police in £40,000 city raid

A Taxi Driver was handcuffed by thieves who posed as customs and police officers to get into his house.
The 51-year-old opened his door to two men who claimed they had a warrant to search his house in Portsmouth for drugs and guns.

Once inside they spun him around, pushed him to the ground and handcuffed his hands behind his back.

His face was then covered with a towel and his feet tied with a belt.

One of the men knelt on the man's back while the other, and a third man who arrived, searched the house in St Chad's Avenue, North End.

They discovered the man's safe in his garage and took up to £40,000 in cash plus a Rolex watch. The raid lasted about five minutes.

After the gang fled the man managed to struggle free and raise the alarm.

The victim, a taxi driver and businessman, said: 'I was thinking "why have they cuffed me? I haven't done anything wrong". I asked them to show me their ID when I twigged it was a set-up.

'They were saying the dogs were on their way to search for drugs but I knew it was a set-up.

'They've done it before. I could tell they knew what they were doing.'

The raid happened at 10.35am yesterday.

The burglars are described as three white men, aged between 30 and 40.

Well he's certainly no ordinary taxi driver with that kind of money lying around.

But it looks like the culprits knew this and knew what they were looking for.

I bet you cant earn that in 12 months of friday and saturday nights in reality!! Said with tongue in cheek fella

Although i do feel for these people and certainly dont condone this type of behaviour you have to ask why they keep this kind of money in the house or garage, i bet the taxman didn't know about it

I thought that the milk float had been car-jacked and is now available, at a very resonable price from Birtley Car Sales, the Norths Premier used car hypermarket.
