Teenager knifes Cabbie

A TEENAGER high on drugs and booze slashed a cab driver and tried to steal his money bag.

Billy Duncan, 18, pulled a nine-inch knife on Grant McLean after refusing to pay a 19 pounds fare for friends.

He demanded cash but fled when he dropped the weapon in a struggle. Mr McLean drove to hospital where he needed stitches to a 3cm wound which severed a nerve, a court heard yesterday.

He wore a cast for two weeks and did not drive his cab for three months.

Duncan pleaded guilty to the knife assault in January. Defence agent Mike Bevan said Duncan, who has learning difficulties, had a severe drink and valium problem.

He said: "He can't remember the incident." Sentence was deferred for background reports.
