I know the wording is not perfect. But it is a start to point out the silliness of the multiple laws and byelaws etc. At least it highlights the stupidity or all these laws and how they conflict. But yes the deregulations of PH will hackle and stop hackneys from signing.

Jimbo,
although I said in the "extra information" about a single tier rather than a 2-tier system that is not part of the petition.
All the petition says is we want new laws (instead of things that were introduced before man had invented powered flight).
Also the petition does not say what form new laws should take, deliberately, as although I am currently a PH driver, my next move is to HC.
This is not aimed against Hackneys, just pro a more modern set of rules that doesn't see us fighting petty council regulations at every turn.
However if you think all our laws are wonderful then don't sign

OK, I won't.

Didn't notice a mention of single tier, just allowing PH to ply for hire, with top light et al. I don't think "all our laws are wonderful" I do think your proposal would make things a bloody sight worse.

Sorry Jimbo 0/10 for observation

There is no mention of allowing PH to "ply for hire" nor of a "top light"
There is a suggestion that PH should have roof signs so the customer can recognise them, but NOT that they should be illuminated.

Still, mustn't complain, at least you looked at the thing and made a decision.

As I said in my first reply to jimbo I will personally be moving to HC but I still want a decent set of laws to govern me.

I say again......... I am not saying in the petition WHAT the new laws should be......just that we need them.

Without looking again, did it not say something about PH drivers sat at the kerb, dishing out cards, punter phones in to office, then gets into same PH? If that is not Plying for hire, what is it?

It's exactly what the PCO tells PH drivers to do if approached by a prospective customer.

I don't know what else you could reasonably do if approached. This is not about sitting next to a rank but parked up legitimately on some ordinary street waiting for your next job from your office.

However I apologise for my observation comments to you as I can see how you could read that as illegal plying.

Well at least you have more than the wheel-chair one.

Which, for what it's worth, surprises me. :?

Why should it surprise you?
Are you completely satisfied with our incompetent and antiquarian laws? :?

It surprises me because I have a very cynical view about some in this trade, and IMO many would fight a great deal harder to stop mandatory WAVs than would fight for a change to the licensing regs status-quo. :?

I'm not sure really. It needs thought. However you can check out my posting on "Delimitation.....A change of Mind" for initial ideas.

They got over 2 million sigs against the road pricing and are still going ahead with it, so it looks like you can make any petition you want get as many sigs as you can and you'll be ignored.

The only way to let the Government know how you really feel is at the ballot box and kick them out
