Well today I was attacked for the second time in six months and i've decided enough is enough. Luckily not injured but its the whole attitude of the authorities towards it that just makes me think what is the point anymore. Phoned the cops and was told it wasn't a priority and i'd be better off going to the cop shop to report it. Went in and was told that if I didn't have a witness it was a waste of everybodys time. Thanks again Strathclyde Police.

After insisting I wanted to make a report the police guy went and found a bit of A4 and wrote down the details of what happened, no official report sheet, no crime number given, nothing.
Gave the name and description of the attacker, his address and was informed he was well known to them and if they went to speak to him he would deny it, so it would be a waste of their resources. Was then helpfully informed that they only have 4 squad cars for a population of 120,000 and they had two big operations on at the moment. That is obviously my fault and I shouldn't be so inconsiderate as to be the victim of a crime at such a busy time for them.

On the previous occasion I was attacked by 8 youths and had my car damaged, again no priority but at least on that occasion they filled out a proper crime report, just a pity they managed to lose it by the time I phoned back the next day.

Advice today from police was that unless I have corroborating witnesses to anything that happens when I am out working in my car then there is no point in reporting it as they can't do anything unless the perpetrator decides to pop in and confess his sins. Decided to ask about protecting myself in the car at which stage the officer decided to ask me if I had any offensive weapons in the car. I have a few dodgy CD's that may be termed offensive to good musical taste but amazing how they suddenly became interested in me.

Added to this the fact that I was hit in a hit and run about 18 months ago and when I went in to give regi details of the van was told it did not exist, despite regularly seeing the same vehicle most days since what is the point.

Tony Blair's legacy. Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime - MY A$$E. Tough luck if you are law abiding, protection if you are not more like.

Don't say you've been attacked on here as you'll be accused of being Tigger and that you invented the whole thing and that nothing ever happens to Taxi Drivers.

Soz - hope your ok and give it another chance.

Thats shocking mate, at the very least i'd kick up such a stink about this with the police and newspapers they'd remember me for a few years to come!
Can you not go on Days/early evening till you get some confidence back?

I wish you well for the future.

Maybe you have been unlucky, but if you think the time has come for you to depart the trade then that's regretable, but understandable.

Cheers guys. Not wanting to sound like a moaner, anyone who has read a few of my posts will see I try to see humour in all things. Additionally I believe in freedom of expression and anyone who wants to slag me or support me is more than welcome to do so.

It is just one of those things and yeah I should say to hell with them and the police but thats easier said than done. This incident took place at midday on a Saturday, not in the wee dark hours. In the end of the day I am fed up with the police attitude and the people who puke, pee, and generally disrespect my property and wonder why I should shell out a fortune keeping a nice car on the road for them to treat like s$$t.

Police complaints procedure has now been put in action (though that will be complete waste of time), MP, MSP and local press will be contacted too but probably will only succeed in giving me an outlet to vent my very green spleen

It is a pity as I love the good people that get in my car and helping the wee wifies to the door with their shopping but I have a young daughter and dont see the point in doing a job that the police are not in the least bit interested in supporting me in, unless I am stabbed or seriously assaulted. 3 of our drivers have been knifed in last 9 months, and that is only time they have got of their arses, put down the donuts and done their job.

From a positive point of view it means one less car on the road for the rest of the guys in Paisley to compete with for work :D

Sorry that has happened but that is exactly the kind of thing I want. Esprcially lack of support by police and authorities. May I copy and paste you story (anonymously) on my site? as another example.

Take care.

Junie

Fraz 1975, if you require a quick response from the police dial 999 they have to respond, regardless.
Don't give up the job, I have been held up a knife point and had the car high jacked in the passed, but have kept going, try just picking up sensible folk for a while until you regain your confidence and let your office know this.
Remember don't let them win.

I'd go along with that.
Kick up a stink. Make them take notice.
Complain to anyone who willl listen, police complaints, mp, msp, council and press.
If you make enough noise they will take notice.
If you seriously can't stand it any more, maybe you should give it up.
Don't decide yet. Take a few days off and see how you feel then.
I wish you all the best whatever you decide

Sounds like a very good in-car CCTV system is what you need then you can offer evidence to Mr "I'm too busy filling in forms to deal with crime".

Also you need a decent local Cab Drivers Association and maybe membership of a National body such as NTA or GMB

Don't let the b4st4rds grind you down. Neither the yobs nor the police!

That approach is not unique our local police are the same crime against a cabbie= low priority but when there is something that cabbies might be able to help with well they expect us to jump through hoops to provide assistance

Tried that one in the previous attack by the group of neds and was still told not a priority and would be better off going to the local nick to report it. They would have been out quick enough if I had reversed over the wee f@@@ers.

Not worked in last 24 hours and had my wee girl in the car today when she asked if she could have the sweetie on the back seat, turns out when I took it off her it was an ecstasy tablet, obviously from the same wee tossbags as all other hires yesterday morning were old wifies. My fault perhaps for not having checked the car out, but still given me another fright, just as well my wee one know to ask before she eats anything. Maybe I should take it into the nick but they'll probably lift me for possession of class A's.

Going to take a week off on holiday from the radio, go in and see the boss man tomorrow and work out what i'm gonna do. Take it easy guys and gals.

had that happen. Have regular Drug King and his henchmen. He's OK. But his guys are mixed. Not afraid of throwing anyone out. But they left stuff in the cab and the next was a father with a young child. Put her hand down the seat and pulled out a bag of white. of course he went balistic. I also went balistic when the druggies were next in. Locked them in and gave them what for - on My Meter time. One blamed the father and another the child. I spoke to Mr Big and he gave them what for and a promise it wouldn't happen again. Either that or cabbie neutrality ends. Keep it in your pocket or if I find it in my cab It will be straight up to the police and finger printed and I will say who was last in my cab.

Was pulled over by two lads in the pouring rain 1am to go and park on a bridge and wait. Said they were trying to get a library book back (Puuuuleeezzzee!!! Give me some Cred. )

With me they usually pretend to be getting some money off a mate that they have to meet somewhere neutral or who'll be along in a minute. Oh yeh :P
