Don't really know where to start this thread but asking for honesty and agree that many replies will be PM but: if you know that a Hack is driving 4 nights a week and smoking something none too legal what or more honestly how do you report it? This woman is for better words "showing off" that "this" is how she copes with hours etc.

Personally I want her busted but how do I go about it?

I would send an anon letter to your licensing department.

Nowadays the police have got these supa dupa drug testing machines. So it will be easy for the driver to get caught even if not red-handed.

Our licensing department will not act on anonymous letters. They could just be someone out to cause trouble. We had a case a while ago where a PH vehicle's plate had ran out but the op was still using it for school runs. The LA wouldn't do anything unless a complaint was in writing.

Well an anon letter is in writing?

Of course, perhaps some LAs require the complainant to make themselves know (whether in writing or not), but may not disclose the allegation to the accused.

The simple answer is yes our licensing department will not act on anonymous letters. They will not even act on telephone calls where the caller has identified themselves. Believe it or not they won't even do anything if you personally go to see them and make a complaint. It has to be in writing and signed with your name and contact details so that the complaint can be verified and this must be done so that it is admissable as evidence.
I took them to task on this and said something along the lines of "so if you get 10 people all either ring you up or come in with the same complaint you won't do anything." They told me that they couldn't. I pointed out that I wouldn't want to be in their shoes if it came to court and it was found that they knew about whatever it is and had done nothing. Well you know.

The Council may well NOT act upon verbal or anonymous information ......................... however the police do through crimestoppers.

But that advice has already been offered.

at the end of the day Skippy71 you have to ask yourself would you be happy if some one you know was in that cab and was hurt due to the fact the driver was not in full control due to drugs.

your name can not be give out under the data protection act your details have to be blanked out when the person sees your letter.
one of our drivers had a complante made against him he got a copy of the letter and asked to answer the allegations against him. the letter was full of lies and he was able to clear his name.
the person who wrote the letters details had been blanked out so he did not know who it was.

your LA would just ask the driver to sit a drugs test to make sure that every thing was ok and that would be the end of one junkie driver

If it's drink or drugs the best approach would be to the Police, a quick phone call and they'd be pulled in 10mins, they dont have the same problems with being "PC" as the LO.

as they say this is a "no-brainer" shop the junkie

Thank you very much for the advice / opinions. I had an idea in my mind which has been well supported and I will be taking this route when I can actually see this person driving the vehicle and can give all the details I will definately be calling Crimestoppers; although if pushed I think that I would actually stand up and confront this person and give my name etc as I personally believe that what they are doing is wrong and endangering lives, not only of her passengers but also any other road user who she may come accross. IF I actually WITNESS this person smoking whatever it is thats not quite legal then get behind the wheel of a cab I WILL report her directly using 999 if necessary - ie. carrying passengers. I would do the same if I saw someone driving drunk.

SO many of you could have posted "quotes" where a driver has been unfit through drink or drugs and the effects .... thank you for not doing so and taking this matter seriously; but those are the images that I really don't want to wake up to one morning knowing that maybe I could have done something.

If you know someone similar be brave as well and take the advice that has been posted - you never know that phone call might just save your own life.
