Can you be a hackney carriage driver in one district and drive a hack there ... and..... hold a PH licence in another district and drive a seperate car licensed a PH in that district.

So you hold a Hack licence in District A and drive a District A Hackney.

And you hold a PH licence in District B and drive a PH licensed in District B.

That is what I thought.

A competitor of mine wants to licence some of his fleet in different districts for understandable reasons and the second authority told him he couldn't hold licences with two councils. They obviously don't know what they are talking about.

From what you have said it would appear the problem lies with licensing the vehicle but all he need do is license the vehicle as a hackney carriage in one area and he can use it as a private vehicle in any other area.

Simple solution really.

There must be lots of drivers hold two badges at the same time, for example if they've moved house or perhaps just change district without moving house.

I think we've discussed the vehicle aspect in the past, and in theory there's nothing to preclude a vehicle holding two licences, and of course as JD says the solution is straightforward.

However, I think Tom said at the outset that the dual-badged drivers would be driving separate cars, so the vehicle licensing conundrum wouldn't arise?

today one of the York hacks gets plated as he transfers over to be a Selby hack, his Selby address has been checked out as his place of abode, even though he lives in York 14 miles away

but on talking to the driver it is his intention to carry on working as a Hack in York, keeping the York rented plate, plus keeping a Selby plate and licence [maybe in his draw]

by now at this time of writing he now will be fully licenced hack in Selby and also in York, the only problem he has at the moment is the meter, but he has a spare one, so that problem solved

We have duel badges in the Borders, and if we want to plate our cabs for another area we can, keeping both plates on the cab, we could put 4 plates if we wanted as there are 4 zones.
The best way to resolve the problem would be have a meter rate that covers the whole of north Yorkshire instead of York being 1 rate and the other towns being different
