Well it depends out of how many?

If there was only 300 taxi drivers in the UK, then I would say that's a good turn-out.

However out of 80,000, it isn't.

Also from experience, if 300 people say they will do something, then you can guarantee only about 50 of them.

But however many turn up, I hope you have a good day.

I've been racking my brains over that name for ages, thank you very much. I knew the National federation had won over a peer but I wasn't aware of how much money was involved.

Best wishes

Now a cynic would say that so much money was given, that it led to the demise of the NTFA.

Thanks goodness I'm not a cynic.

prior to lord rentons intervention the federation had been paying parliamentory agents, spending to the tune of £40k.

from my records everything financial should have been sound, but the TOA from Birmingham refused to pay the plate levvy, (£4 per plate)

It led to the collapse of finances.

There has been a lot of looking at the situation, the then general secretary from Huntingdon was unfairly castigated because of office costs, but this was just a matter of a few thousand pounds.

the main culprits were the larger TOA's that refused to pay the green paper levvy.

Sussex is quite right, cynical, but right, it is a true reflection of the trade, many places benefited from the NFTA actions but the same places turned their backs when it was in need.

When you see groups like the NTTG come along it just makes a mockery of the whole thing.

I think it has been that way since Adam ate his apple. :(

Someone new comes on the scene, promises the earth, and those short-sighted drivers take it hook, line and sinker. :(

Perhaps if we do de-limit nationally, then the unions/association will be able to concentrate on the other issues that effect us. Like earning a living, without getting a knife in your back.

But then I suppose something like the DDA will split us all yet again, between those who have to have WAVs, and those that don't.

Oh happy days.........................

sussex,

unfortunately the same people are about now as in 1994, only now we have a new and improved kind of bigot, [edited by admin] scousers in a meeting with government officials (york 94 i think) get thrown out and its the national bodies fault. happy days indeed.

the DDA has been going to split the trade for a while, in places where it isnt accepted. But accepted or not, its going to happen.

What needs sorted, as the guy from Gateshead quite rightly points out, are the kerbside conversions that are simply dangerous.

regards

Captain Cab

Sod looking at the kerbside conversions, they dont actually have a bad accident record. Look at the DoTs own statistics. Clearly the most people who die, are in school buses being driven by School Teachers.

I would like to see what the statistics are, for people being carried in hire and reward or so-called grey area "own account" operations which are licensed by no one at all. Ambulance Cars, Community Schemes, Charity Buses, and anyone who isnt licensed by an appropriate authority driving vehicles which do not have to meet either the standards of a PSV or a Hackney or PH car.

But guess what? They are not measured separately.
