Should all current taxi and PH rules be scraped, and the rule book rewritten
and all licensing and testing taken over by VOSA for a fairer playing field

I think it would be for the best, as we would get cheaper licences not only for the vehicles, but drivers as well, and 1 set of rules that we could all understand

I think a local knowledge test is important and locally licenced vehicles should be retained, otherwise the whole country could become a free for all. I do believe a uniform testing regime for all taxis would be a good idea. If a vehicle is good enough to be a taxi in one area, it should be good enough in any area. I am not advocating an "all UK" licence, only a uniform set of standards and conditions.

Maybe when the new rules for 1-16 seat limousines are revealed the PH vehicles will be included leaving the LA to deal just with taxis.

They may just bar over 8 seat limos and force LA's to licence the rest

Ah here we go again, lets have another go at limos, im finding it hard now to find a thread that doesn't somehow involve limos, and this is a TAXI FORUM, come on guys leave the limo posts to the proper limo threads at least :D Some of the real taxi threads are most interesting and most are now being ruined by taxi and limo ops debating, just my opinion of course :D

The enforcement by VOSA is crap at best, and when it comes to small and restricted PSVs it's even worse. [-(

Ah but sussex if they did take over, the licence fee,s would pay for more inspectors, so you would have more chance of being stoped and checked.

Before anyone starts gettting the flags out for vosa you should know that the goverment is negotiating at this very moment with a large german car manufacturer over the sale of the testing side.

Im sure they wont put prices up though

even in the hands of the germans, i dont think we would get charged the hundreds of pounds that we get charged now and have to put up with the nonesense the councils give us. even the councils can not justify the cost they charge !!
