I don't know whether VOSA would be the best body to administer things however there are still a few days to let the govt know that we need new laws.

The lack of signatures so far suggests that everyone apart from the signatories is satisfied with the current shambolic legislation.

I am please your sorted in your area but it goes back to that councils know its in the hands of the trade, and know they dont stick together.

If it is possible to have one authority working with the trade for mutual benefit and then in turn to the benefit of the public ......................... then it is possible elsewhere.

The journey there is long and hard .................... the problem is that most areas are still at the stage where everyone expects to get exactly what they want immediately.

But, I believe, it is a journey worth making and I understand why people would seek an alternative easier route.

while your comments maybe true we have worked with the council for years to get them to understand what we need. but when a council can and is influenced by a small hackney trade with "in this area" blinkered views and those views restrict our trade from operating better and thrieving, this is not good.

we also have officers with carry vendetors or envy those that are sucessfull, because once you stand out of line against the council or ask to much your going to get it !!!

this is not what it is about but the is what goes on and i dont want to stick my head in the sand and let them rule the roost, if i belive its wrong.

by the way GA, you did not answer my question, of are you the man behind the up front mag in the north east ??

ians, how long has your LO been your LO?

How long do you expect your LO to be your LO?

Would it be better if the LO was trained to be a LO and then more likely to remain your LO?

there has been a muttering that the LO in Derwentside has introduced a "locality test" for drivers ................. and then got a job within another authority ( not in Licensing).

Maybe if these people were accountable for their actions they would think more before reaching a decision.

On another point a mate of mine has just had a fee refunded by our council when it was discovered that he was given false or innacurate information ..................... the appeal for loss of earnings suffered because of this is now underway.

We achieved this through reasoned argument presented in a professional manner ..................... surely its the best way forward.

thats all fair to say if it can be done but we have put up arguments and fights with the councils and they just shut doors if it does not suit them and if your resist they just make things hard for you in other ways to sicken you!!

the avarage man in the street can not fight this !!

i personally think i have put up fair arguments ! in most cases throught my solicitors and barristors. but you must remember officers if they want "back heel" decisions to a room full of commitee members who know jack [edited by admin] about what they are there to doing they know the chances are even less likey to turn in your favor

then your in the lap of the gods, because then you are trying to get so called politicians to agree something to benift the public or the trade

many a time i have seen the dislike for the person across the room come into their decision making, and i can no longer sit and wait for these numbtys to lokk after my livelyhood

I agree with everything GA has said about LOs and you must be feeling frustrated, however LOs can only do what the law allows them to do and NOT act like little hitlers. You have elected councillors and an MP you could talk to as well.
ians it sounds to me like you need proper professional union representation.
I suggest you join the GMB PDB.
Good Luck

ians,

Maybe they just see the possible cost implications to your suggestions should they refuse BEFORE they consider the merits of your suggestions.
