Back to the topic.

Why doesn't anyone want to represent, thus getting subscriptions, from 120,000 drivers?

Or are the existing so-called representatives, just happy to wet their beaks from solely the vested interests?

No Geoff, what I'm saying is that if certain sections of the taxi trade spent 10% of the time they spend protecting their 'monopoly premiums', protecting drivers safety and fare income, then the trade would be in a far better state than it is at present.

The fact that certain unions are protecting the bosses, at the expense of the workers, is also baffling.

I think the word that comes to mind is APATHY if I have spelt it correctly. As a committee member of our local organisation, apathy is the only word to discribe the whole of the trade, I speak of HC & PH they sit on the ranks or in the drivers room (In the RAF we called them Barrack Room Lawyers) and they talk the talk, but when you ask for a contribution to an organisation to represent the whole of there opinions they all seem to disappear. I have talked to others around the south at various spots, like waiting at the airport etc and they say the same thing. Strange that people will talk and talk but will not put money where there mouths suggest. I feel so frustrated at times that I don't why we bother to try and help those who don't whant to be helped, even when its biting the backsides.
does that sound angry enough. :!: :!: :!: :?:

nOT BAFFLING AT ALL, IF THE BOSSES GO SO DO THE JOBS
though the organisation you ask for is within your grasp.

in all my years though the private hire industry is the most unorganised, and undiciplined I have ever sean anywhere.

though such an organisation would need to be principled and with good policy, none of this I do whatever my members want [edited by admin], you will never get anywhere fighting for the wrong, but lose credibility.

Bryan,
Sorry to have to disagree with you, but I think it goes deaper than that.

Many taxi drivers, are so beccause of change, change in other proffesions lost markets, englands decline, and what they are terrified of is change, restructure, they just dunna wanna know

For years my company has stood still, we could have no more cars beccause of restriction by numbers, 4 years ago that was lifted, and there was utter panic, not from loss of premiums, only I was affected by that, but change, what if...............

every time I TRY TO INSTITUTE CHANGE i get interference both within and outside.

I am on the brink of breakthrough, my company will move ahead I am confident and enthusiastic, drivers sit there biting thier nails? because of something new?

To a degree, yes you are right.

But customers get taken from A to B via drivers, not via the operators.

They can do without one, by going to a rank, or sticking their little old arms out.

But they can't do without the chap behind the wheel.

The article was correct to ask the question, 120,000 people is one hell of a lot of people who are apparently unrepresented.

I often think that the PH driver is worse of than his HC counterpart, primarily due to the operators scenario where they could in theory more easily cartel in places to the drivers obvious disadvantage. Whereas the HC driver has always been more of an apparent free spirit.

Perhaps in 7 days time they will have the chance through the OFT to join a HC based body (thats got sussex smiling)

The reason I quote this gentleman is obvious, he's correct, I do feel that drivers will eventually join local and national bodies (even SCATA and the NTTG   ), because their ideas suit on a local basis.

To a certain degree the national trade must look as to why these people wont join.

regards

Captain Cab

Hang on a minute,

youve made this point afore, but what makes a system is the team, the whole team working together and each fulfilling thier roles well.

its ok saying they can pop down to the rank, frankly I learned a long time ago that as a society we are getting lazy.

Sussex mate you are in a pub and you wanna move, what happens? out comes the mobile and you ring somebody, ranks are in decline, dont believe me? look at the statistics.

All the moans on here about rank space is frankly crap if you are on rank the chances of a fare are slimmer than driving down the road.

taxis are in decline unless we do get to where the people are.

frankly in our patch of £75,000 premiums private hire do more public hire jobs than we do.

Report them and the premium holders go mad.

and you know why!

Well I'm not that sure what you are saying there. :?

But I agree, some national leadership, but not all, have lost there way by pandering to the big mouths, instead of the facts, and pandering to the advertisers, instead of the lads.

Again having just read March's PHM, the NPHA are saying they agree with the selective Select Committee's report, and then go on to say that they now have more HC members, than PH members.

I wonder why?:? :?

Perhaps if they represented those that gave them the name, then that wouldn't be the case.

But the advertisers come first. :?
