any truth re the rumour control that York Stn taxi permits to ply for hire in the Stn Portico by the new operators National Express are to be in the region of £7oo per year April 2008,

I think they are around 500 quid at the moment

but did you know when the Council do a unmet demand survey, York stn Rank being restrictive to a limited number of taxis and being a private railway rank, the Council take that rank into consideration when doing a survey and it messes up the Council rank surveys which then tells the Council cos there is a long waiting delay for for taxis at the Stn, its the worst delay for waiting for a cab in the country at York stn, then it looks like there could be a demand, whilst cabs are sat waiting at Council ranks

The way it is going,the council will be privatised one day but sadly i think this has already happened in most parts of the country

Oh theres a surprise a new franchise operator coming in and jacking up the charges

If there is so much unmet demand shouldn't NX consider reducing the charge to encourage take up of permits ? or is that too easy

They probably want to keep the permit price high because of the demand. They can use this demand to convince drivers that the work is there and the cost represents value for money.

So is York's, but dont tell them, they are to thick to work it out, or look at the old road map of the A19
All they have to do is ask the council to move the rank from inside the foyer to the outside thus saving £500, or the new £700 that's coming in, there is plenty of room and it wont hinder the punters to walk another 20 yards

over the years two drivers went down this road [no pun intended] re the A19 York Stn rank and did research proving yes you are right Skippy, funny enough, one of them was nick named "Skippy"

it is also worth pointing out that any road maintainance done on the road in the Portico is done by Network Rail [Goverment] and billed to the Council

i think the drivers are quite happy at the York Stn rank with charges cos with the new layout, the old exit still there, is only 10 metres away, but now you have to go round de loop de loop sytem, at busy times meter can clock up 60p, 70p, or even over a quid or more before they get out of the Stn, so boosts earnings to those drivers

Stinky no wonder they are brain dead at the station, after a day of going round the magic roundabout
At just under £2.00 a day it does not seem bad but if they have to pay the full amount up front there must be some that are struggling to find it.

Then instead of saying we are too thick to notice where the rank is, you should know there is nowhere outside the station for it to go, as sowerby is in the middle of nowhere with not much happening, when you got to york you were probably fascinated by all the bright lights and failed to notice.
